The Vapid Chino is a two-door coupé appearing in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, and due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI.
Description
Grand Theft Auto V and Online
The Chino was first added to Grand Theft Auto V and Online as part of the Ill-Gotten Gains Part 2 update.
Grand Theft Auto VI

The Chino can be seen several times in the game's first trailer:
- A black one can be seen trailing a blue Primo Custom, driving along the opposite side of the road near a car meet in the Stockyard neighborhood of Vice City (0:27).
- Another black one can be seen parked behind two hustlers (0:30).
- A red one can be seen stopped at an intersection during a street takeover in the Crosstown neighborhood of Vice City (0:45).
The car appears to have undergone multiple design changes relative to its prior iteration in GTA V and Online.
The Chino also briefly appeared in the September 2022 GTA VI leaks, in a single clip.[2]
Influence
The Chino's design, especially in the side profile, appears to be derived primarily from the 1962 Lincoln Continental, with some elements[vague] taken from the 1966 Lincoln Continental. The idea of the headlights behind the grille might have been inspired by James Hetfield's custom Lincoln Continental - "The Dead Kennedy". Another major influence for the Chino's design is the 1964 Chevrolet Impala, seen in the shape of the grille as well as the front bumper, the hood and the roofline. The rear of the car might have been inspired by either the 1963 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Convertible or the 1966 Mercury Monterey.
Design
Grand Theft Auto V and Online
The Chino is a large two-door coupé that features a grilled front end, dual circular headlights and a chrome bumper, the latter bearing smaller unusable fog lights and the license plate. The hood bears a small Vapid logo on the front and an elevated center running towards the windshield. The sides are distinguished by the chrome elements on the fenders and the bottom, as well as around the windows, the door handles and the square rear-view mirrors. The rear end features twin tail lights surrounded by chrome trims, as well as a chrome bumper bearing the reverse lights and the license plate. Two exhaust pipes can be seen below. The car borrows some of the badges found on the Peyote, while having its own "CHINO" badge, applied to the rear end.
The Chino may appear as a hardtop coupé, but can be customized at Los Santos Customs to remove the roof entirely or replace it with a non-retractable fabric top. It is only available in a single color that is also applied on the interior stitching. It uses a set of custom wired wheels with low-profile tires, whose design is entirely unique compared to the wire-type lowrider rims seen in Los Santos Customs.
Grand Theft Auto VI

In comparison to its appearance in Grand Theft Auto V and Online, the Chino's design in the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI remains largely unchanged. However, the car's bumper design has been modified; it no longer features a front license plate, which has been replaced by a small bumper opening at the top. Additionally, the grille now consists of a single chrome horizontal bar connecting the headlights, in contrast to its previous, denser design that sat in front of the headlights. A later shot (0:30) also reveals a substantial upgrade in interior quality, most notably in the door cards, along with a more detailed B-pillar.
Performance
Grand Theft Auto V and Online
Overall, the Chino is a fairly lacking car in terms of performance. It has a low acceleration because of its heavy weight, and the lowest top speed for its class. While the Chino is considered a Muscle car, its engine output is much lower than other cars, making it relatively easy to control and hard to spin out. Handling wise, the Chino is a very well handling Muscle, able to go through most corners without much effort. It still has its bouts of oversteer like any other Muscle, but when the Chino spins out, it is easy to correct. Crash deformation is above average, owing mostly to its large, heavy body which makes it resilient to physical damage and protects the engine sufficiently well. The car's width may prove to be an issue when attempting to cut in between lanes of traffic as it is abnormally wide for a car in general. Overall, the Chino is a good car for cruising around in, but otherwise, is a meager choice for competitive races.

Trivia
General
- Chino pants, particularly khakis, were a common piece of apparel among Latino gangbangers in 1990s California.[3] A lowrider variant of the Chino was later introduced in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the Lowriders update, which pays homage to this culture.
Grand Theft Auto Online
- In the vehicle's Legendary Motorsport description, it is mentioned as being the choice of statesmen. This is likely a reference to the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, whose presidential limousine was a modified 1961 Lincoln Continental. Kennedy was traveling in this limousine when he was assassinated in 1963. The description also alludes to tennis and sexual promiscuity, aspects of Kennedy's public image.
- The "Serpents of Destruction" tattoo option depicts a red Chino next to a yellow Blade.[4]
