Cops & Crooks (also known as Cops 'n' Crooks[3] , CNC or Arcade 1[1]) was a content update cut from Grand Theft Auto Online, scheduled for release in summer 2020[2].
Description
Cops and Crooks was a major content update including arcade-style cops versus crooks game modes, a variety of new police and civilian vehicles, and weapons. The update was never officially revealed or released by Rockstar Games; however, remnants of the DLC have been found or recycled in subsequent updates, including the Los Santos Summer Special, Chop Shop and Bottom Dollar Bounties[4] updates. Significant amounts of data relating to the update were later found as part of GTA V's September 2022 leaks.[ref?]
The update appears to have been developed as a continuation of the preceding Diamond Casino Heist update, given much of the data related to this update is positioned immediately after content pertaining to mpheist3
(internal name for The Diamond Casino Heist), and the internal name for Cops and Crooks was, at some point during its development, mparc1
. The name "arc
" appears to be associated to Arcades[1], which were initially introduced in the aforementioned heist update.
History
Rumors of a cut Cops and Crooks themed game mode began recirculating again in July 2022, almost a decade after Cops and Crooks was previously discovered to be a fundamental concept of GTA Online's initial release. A Bloomberg article revealed[vague] that Rockstar Games had "quietly shelved a mode of play it had planned to release [for GTA Online]".[5] It was speculated that the update was cancelled due to the death of George Floyd which happened in the same year.
