Classes

Classes refer to specific character professions in the world of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. The class of an individual can determine the general role that is assigned to them within a party. The currently known classes are archer,[1] hero,[2] mage,[2] monk,[3] priest,[2] thief,[4] and warrior.[2]

Archer

Main article: Archer

Archers are a class of individual marksmen that wield physical ranged attack weapons, such as bows and arrows. Within parties, they support the front lines by dealing damage from a distance. To enhance damage, they can apply poison to their arrows. In certain situations, archers will function as snipers and engage a target from far distances. Setting up an ambush to attack outside of a mage's mana detection is a tactic used by skilled individuals in this class.[5][1]

Hero

Main article: Hero

Heros are a class formed by distinguished individuals that are often melee combatants. They fight with incredible speed and keen senses and are typically at the front lines of a party. Individuals of this class exhibit selfless qualities, leadership capabilities, and the willingness to go above and beyond to achieve heroic deeds.

Mage

Main article: Mage

Mages are a class of characters that wield magic and cast spells. Within parties, they support the members by casting supportive and defensive spells or by engaging in combat with attack spells. Some mages also employ melee combat and use magic to enhance their combat ability. Mages are also capable of facilitating everyday or common tasks depending on what spells they know, particularly folk magic.

Monk

Main article: Monk

Although not much is known about the structure or combative abilities of the monk class, monks appear to be part of monasteries, and, as part of their harsh training, they copy manuscripts and practice honest poverty by living in extreme environments.[6] Warrior-monks[7] are a subclass of monks that utilize melee fighting abilities in combat. They fight by physically attacking with their body parts to engage targets.[3] As monks, they are characters with a strong faith for the deity they worship, such as the Goddess of Creation.[7] It is unknown if monks can utilize the Magic of the Goddess like priests can.

Warrior Monks

Priest

Main article: Priest

Priests are a class of characters that can utilize the Magic of the Goddess.[4] They are often part of the clergy and live in churches.[8] If they are part of an adventurer group, priests support the damage-dealing members with support magic, but they can also attack with combat spells. To use the Magic of the Goddess, priests need a Holy Scripture wherein spells are recorded. Individuals of this class are more resistant to curses due to a gifted natural talent for the Magic of the Goddess. They can identify curses and perform rituals with special equipment to lift them.[4]

Bishop

Priest

Thief

Main article: Thief

Not much is known about the thief class, but one of their roles in a party is the act of disabling traps.[4] Class members seem to be organized into thieves' guilds.[9]

Warrior

Main article: Warrior

Warriors are a class of characters that most often utilize different kinds of melee weapons, enabling them to excel in close-range combat. In an adventuring party, they act as both damage dealers and tanks, which make them part of the front lines. Members of this class are extremely strong, swift, and resilient against many types of damage sources. Warriors also train techniques—including special techniques—for the weapons they wield, which are taught and passed down from old to new generations.

Warriors may form communities by themselves, and as such, they may occupy villages with their families.[10][11]
