The XM4 is an assault rifle featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Mobile.

Overview

Campaign

It appears as the primary weapon in Nowhere Left to Run at the Trabzon Airfield, in Operation Red Circus when eliminating Vadim Rudnik at a Soviet military base, and in The Final Countdown when assaulting the Solovetsky Monastery.

In Operation Chaos, an XM4 can be found in the gas station alongside other weapons.

In Ashes to Ashes, "Bell" wields an XM4, but it's never used.

Zombies

The XM4 can be brought into any map via Create-A-Class, at Loadout rarity and can be found at any rarity via the Mystery Box for 950 Essence. Within Die Maschine, It can be found in the Tunnel system leading to Project Endstation, opposite of the enterance to the facility as a Wall Gun costing 1,750 Essence coming with 3 attachments and at Uncommon Rarity. When upgraded via Pack-a-Punch Machine it becomes the Xeno Matter 4000, gaining increased stats.

Call of Duty: Mobile

The XM4 returns in Call of Duty: Mobile. It was added in January 2025 as part of the Season 1: Wings of Vengeance update.

Multiplayer

The XM4 is a moderate to low damage weapon. From point blank range to 12 meters, the XM4 will be a four-hit-kill. From 12 to 26 meters, the XM4 will be a five-hit kill. Beyond 26 meters, the XM4 will be a consistent six-hit-kill. Hitting headshots can reduce the shots to kill in each range. Attachments such as the Task Force barrel can improve the XM4's capabilities over distance. The XM4 appears to have worse penetration than other assault rifles, being unable to shoot through the house walls in Nuketown, unlike its peers.

Fire rate is 750 RPM, similar to a handful of weapons in the game such as S36, PDW-57 and Type 19. Recoil is moderate, having little to no horizontal recoil in the first 14 bullets every time the player pulls the trigger. However, the vertical recoil can become slightly uncontrollable under sustained fire.

Handling is below average among all assault rifles. Movement speed is 4.37 m/s, with aim walking movement speed of 2.49 m/s, only faster than the LAG 53. Sprint speed is technically a great improvement over base walk speed, with a 39% increase. However due to the slow base walk speed, the sprint speed is average compared to all assault rifles. Attachments such as Bruiser Grip or Infiltrator Grip can be used to improve overall mobility.

Aim down sight time is 270ms, tied with Swordfish, once again below average in class. Sprint to fire speed is 162ms, slightly below average in class. Attachments such as Wire Stock, Buffer Tube and SAS Combat Stock are necessary to improve this value.

ADS spread is 16.8(9), which is a fixed value. Hip fire spread is below average, however tied with LAG 53, at 300(180). Hit flinch is 0.6, average for class. Bullet impact is 1.00 (0.60), average for class.

Overall, the XM4 is comparable to the Type 19 and M4, which are relatively average compared to other weapons in their class, but shine with attachments. While Type 19 can be a role-oriented weapon, having greater range and TTK potential, the XM4 can be a better jack of all trades, though it also has a preference for close-range. With such versatility, of course, there is a slight lack of specialization.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

• On the dust cover of the XM4, the words "THIS IS MY RIFLE" can be seen. This is a reference to the Rifleman's Creed.
• "HANGMAN DEFENSE", "ROCHESTER, IL", "U.S.A." is written near the fire selector.
• A SOG patch can be seen on the sling behind the charging handle.
• Equipping the Jungle-Style Mag attachment will change the inspect animation to a mere inspect of the side of the gun, as opposed to the mag tap.
