The L86 LSW, referred to as SA80 in the game files, is a bullpup light machine gun featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty Online, Call of Duty: Mobile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The L86 LSW makes its first appearance as a Light Machine Gun in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It appears in both the campaign and multiplayer modes with a 100-round drum magazine, iron sights and the carrying handle. Uniquely, when the ACOG Scope attachment is equipped, it takes the appearance of the British 'SUSAT' Scope.

Campaign

In the campaign, the L86 LSW makes its only appearances in the campaign mission "Loose Ends", and the Special Ops mission Estate Takedown. Three of them (complete with SUSAT sights) can be found in the room next to the kitchen on the first floor of the house. Another L86, with Iron Sights only, can be found in the basement of the weapon and ammo cache armory. It is extremely useful as it has LMG firepower and magazine size without the long reload time associated with an LMG. Unlike its multiplayer counterpart, the campaign version L86 LSW has near-zero recoil.

Multiplayer

The L86 LSW is one of two pre-unlocked light machine guns, and the primary weapon for the default Overwatch class, which includes a Red Dot Sight and a Grip.

The L86 LSW deals forty damage per bullet at all ranges, making it have an infinitely long three shot kill, and an infinitely long two headshot kill if both shots hit the head. The L86 LSW becomes a two shot kill at all ranges when Stopping Power is equipped. The L86 LSW has high penetration power. The L86 LSW is a one shot kill at all ranges in Hardcore game types.

The L86 LSW fires fully automatically, with a rate of fire of 800 RPM.

The L86 LSW has recoil values of 80 to the left, and 80 to the right. The L86 LSW has no downwards recoil values, instead always kicking upwards with a value of either 20 or 65. The L86 LSW has a centerspeed of 1700.

The L86 LSW slows users down to 87.5% of the base movement speed, or down to 35% while strafing. The L86 LSW has an aim down sight time of 350 milliseconds, and a large hip-fire spread. The L86 LSW's reload animation is five seconds long, although users can Reload Cancel after three seconds.

The L86 LSW, like most other LMGs, has a 100 round magazine capacity. The user will spawn in with two full drum magazines, one already loaded in the gun, for a starting ammo loadout of 200 rounds.

The L86 LSW has the usual assortment of LMG attachments to choose from. All attachments behave as expected on the L86 LSW, with no unintended effects present on any attachments when equipped on the L86 LSW.

Behind the Scenes

The L86 was supposed to be an L85 rifle at one point in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, as the L86's texture sheet has the L85's 30-round magazine on it. The campaign pick-up icon also has the L85's 30-round magazine. The L86's kill icon in multiplayer is still an L85, giving further evidence that the L86 was once an L85. Also, the maximum ammunition amount in the campaign is 420, which is divisible by 30, the usual Assault Rifle magazine size, further suggesting it was the L85 earlier in development.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

"Possessing the highest rate of fire in its class, the L86 LSW suppresses enemy targets with a relentless stream of bullets. Its heavy frame noticeably slows mobility, and high recoil combined with low accuracy makes pinpoint targeting difficult. Find a defensible position, get low, and tear down incoming targets from afar."
— Call of Duty: Elite description

The L86 LSW is featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It is similar in appearance to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 variant, but with new iron sights using an L85 carry handle as the rear of the sight, and the removal of the rear-fitted grip. In the Redemption trailer, it is shown briefly with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2-styled Red Dot Sight, but was unavailable in-game, being replaced in that part with the carry handle variant.

Campaign

The L86 LSW is found in the mission "Bag and Drag" with a Red Dot Sight in the blue van that Delta Force uses to chase down Volk. It is also found in the mission "Stronghold". The L86 LSW on Stronghold uses the Modern Warfare 2 model as well as the SUSAT scope, used by Inner Circle Light Machine gunners.

Multiplayer

The L86 LSW is unlocked at Level 4 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer.

The L86 LSW deals 38 damage per bullet at all ranges. This makes the L86 LSW a three shot kill at all ranges, or a two shot kill if both shots hit the head. The L86 LSW also has high penetration power.

The L86 LSW fires fully automatically at a rate of 800 RPM.

The L86 LSW has recoil values of 50 to the left, 50 to the right, 50 upwards, and 30 downwards. The L86 LSW has a centerspeed value of 1700. Like all other LMGs in Multiplayer, the L86 LSW has a small degree of shot spread when aiming down the sights. The L86 LSW has severe gunkick.

The L86 LSW allows users to move at 80% of the base movement speed, or 32% of the base movement speed when strafing. The hip-fire crosshairs are large. The aim down sight time is slightly faster than most other LMGs, at 380 milliseconds. The L86 LSW's reload animation is 3.76 seconds long, but a Reload Cancel can be performed after 3 seconds. The L86 LSW's reload animation is extended to five seconds long if the L86 LSW has a Grip equipped, but this does not change the reload cancel speed.

The L86 LSW has the standard LMG capacity of 100 rounds per drum. The L86 LSW user spawns in with two drums by default, for a starting ammo loadout of 200 rounds.

The L86 LSW has the standard assortment of LMG attachments and weapon proficiencies on offer. With the exception of the aforementioned Grip, all attachments and weapon proficiencies work as intended on the L86 LSW.

Its minimum damage was increased via hotfix, and now it only needs three bullets to kill at all ranges, even when using a silencer.

Special Ops

The L86 LSW is available for both Survival and Mission modes.

Mission Mode

The L86 LSW is used by the EOD tech in the Mission Mode challenge Invisible Threat. A pair of L86 LSWs is also in the underground armory in Server Crash and at the infil point in Smack Town.

Survival Mode

The L86 LSW is available in Survival Mode at level 41 and costs $7000. Compared to other LMGs, it is rather versatile due to its fast reload speed and high fire rate, but due to its low damage, is beaten in almost every aspect by the MG36. Adding the Grip is highly recommended for the L86 as its recoil is rather high. When using the grip, its recoil tends to walk upward, but this can be remedied by pushing slightly down with your mouse/R-stick.

Call of Duty: Mobile

"Fully automatic LMG, excellent for fire support."
— In-game description

The L86 LSW returns in Call of Duty: Mobile as the UL736.

Multiplayer

The UL736 is a moderate-damage per bullet weapon, with potentially fast TTK over range. At 32m, as long as all three bullets hit the arms or chest, or at least 2 headshots are achieved, the UL736 will be a three-hit kill weapon. from 32 to 45 meters, as long as a single bullet hit anywhere other than the belly and legs, the UL will be a four-hit-kill weapon. From 45 to 55 meters, as long as three bullets hit the arm or chest and one more hit the head, the UL736 will remain a four-hit-kill weapon. From 55 meters to infinity, at least three shots must hit the arms or chest in order to keep the five-hit-kill potential. Otherwise, the UL736 will be a six-hit-kill weapon, making the TTK somewhat not competitive compared to its peers such as the Hades, Chopper, PKM, or even Dingo.

Aim Down Sight time is best in class, at 330 milliseconds. This allows the UL736 to be a lot more flexible toward its attachments compared to its contenders. Sprint-to-fire time is best in class, at 170ms, tied with Hades.

Mobility is excellent, with walking speed at 4.72 m/s, and aim walking movement speed at 2.81 m/s. With faster mobility and ADS time than average, the UL736 is a highly versatile LMG, similar to the Hades.

Magazine size however, is lowest in class, at 30 rounds with 120 in reserve. It is absolutely recommended to equip an extended mag attachment if the player intends to use the weapon as a traditional LMG. The 50 round and 60 round Extended Mags are equally great options with very minimal downsides.

Recoil is moderate, with a little bit of inconsistency. Muzzles or Forgeries are recommended if the player seeks to smoothen the recoil pattern, improving the accuracy over range. ADS Spread is 21, starting at 10, average for class.

Packing with the UL736 is great barrel choices.

The RTC 12.4" barrel reduce the ADS time by 12%, increase overall movement speed by 5% and 2% more for aim walking movement speed, with 11.2% increase to the ADS Spread and 5.6% more recoil as downsides. This is generally a great barrel, bringing the UL736 somewhat closer to the Assault Rifle territory.

The RTC 25.4" Extended Barrel reduce ADS spread by 7.8%, horizontal recoil by 3.2% and vertical recoil by 15.1%, with 30% increase to range. However, this comes at a cost of overall movement speed penalty by 5%, reduces aim walking movement speed by extra 15%, and increase ADS time by 12%. This barrel is a viable option if the player seeks to hold angles on larger maps and to preserve the three-hit-kill potential of the weapon, otherwise it's a passable choice.

The RTC 18.2" Short barrel reduces the ADS time by a minor amount of 4%, along with 20% range reduction. It's generally not a viable option to use, since the range penalty is somewhat hefty for a very small upside.

Battle Royale

The UL736 has low mag size for a LMG, however its damage output is higher than its peers. It can be found as Uncommon and Rare blueprints.

Trivia

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

  • In the campaign, the HUD of the L86 LSW with SUSAT scope shows "L86 LSW Scoped" rather than "L86 LSW ACOG".
  • The Silencer is not centered on the LSW's barrel. It appears to be mounted slightly below the muzzle.
  • In the campaign, Special Ops and multiplayer, when turning, the L86 stays at the same angle as when the player is still. However, this is different from most of the other weapons. In multiplayer, most weapons rotate on the muzzle, whereas in the campaign, most weapons act like the L86 does in multiplayer.
  • When using a grip with this weapon, the players thumb is on the front of the grip along with his other fingers.
  • The Create-a-Class model, the third person model, and the HUD model of the L86-LSW have a grip behind the drum mag.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

  • The serial number of the weapon is DW120381.
  • In "Bag and Drag", during the car chase sequence the L86 found in the back of the van seems to reload at a speed as if Sleight of Hand was in use. This also applies to the L86s in the Special Ops missions Invisible Threat and Smack Town.
  • When reloading, the grip increases reload time; however, only the motions are slowed down, since the time for the bullets to be refilled remains the same as without the grip. This means reload canceling works.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

  • The SA87 was called L86A2 in early stages.

Call of Duty: Mobile

  • The UL736's HUD icon uses the model of the SA80-LSW from Call of Duty: Online.
  • The inscription can be seen written on the gun through weapon inspection.
    • '556MM MACHINEGUN'
    • 'ACCURATE AND POWERFUL AT MID RANGE'
