~ In-game description |
Monkey City is the 4th upgrade of Path 3 for the Monkey Village in Bloons TD 6. It increases the Monkey Village's range by +10, from 40 units to 50 units, and an extra +20% income for all nearby income producers independent from income-per-pop (with some exceptions, includes trap-based sources but excludes several other income sources), similarly to a Central Market when interacting with Merchantmen but only stacking once and only affects towers within range of the Monkey City. It also provides a free Dart Monkey at the end of each round; this benefit stacks with other Monkey Cities in play.
This upgrade costs $2,550 on Easy, $3,000 on Medium, $3,240 on Hard, and $3,600 on Impoppable.
Description
Overview

Monkey City upgrades from a group of three congregated huts into a wooden town hall building. It resembles the Monkey Town Hall building from Bloons Monkey City, except with conjoined huts on either side of it and the entire building is made of wood with no chimney. The clock on the top of the building is an analogue clock, which marks in-game time in hours and minutes down to 5-minute intervals, basing that time on the player's device. What remains a remnant from Monkey Town, its previous upgrade, are two crates placed on the player's right of the building.
Path 1 crosspaths change the color of all Village bands from green to red, and drums from Jungle Drums are placed on the player's left. Adding Path 2 crosspaths adds a signal apparatus onto the apex of the building's roof.
Monkey City provides all benefits of Monkey Town plus the Monkey City buff, which provides extra income generation, as well as a free Dart Monkey per round and +10 range.
Targeting Priorities
Monkey City supports nearby towers with influential tower buffs. However, for simplicity reasons, Monkey City has no targeting priorities.
Costs
- Updated as of Version 46.0. Listed prices exclude external buffs, any sacrifices, and Monkey Knowledge.

Income Buffs
Most forms of pure income generation (i.e. independent from income-per-pop) and trap-based income-per-pop sources (Bloon Trap, Monkey Pirates, Wall of Trees, etc.) are affected by the Monkey City's +20% income buff. The only exceptions to this rule are Farm abilities and Benjamin's Bank "interest" bonus.
Income generation methods affected by Monkey City
- Sniper Monkey: Supply Drop and Elite Sniper abilities.
- Monkey Buccaneer: Merchantman and above upgrades end-of-round income, Monkey Pirates hook ability, Pirate Lord hook ability
- Heli Pilot: Support Chinook and Special Poperations Supply Crate ability.
- Super Monkey: Sun Temple and above upgrades Support sacrifice end-of-round income.
- Druid: Jungle's Bounty ability and Spirit of the Forest end-of-round income.
- Banana Farm: All direct non-ability income generation methods
- Monkey Village: Monkeyopolis money crates (requires a second Village near the Monkeyopolis to provide the Monkey City buff, as it does not apply to itself)
- Engineer Monkey: Bloon Trap and XXXL Trap.
- Benjamin: End of round income.
- Obyn Greenfoot: Wall of Trees
- Geraldo: Fertilizer (effects stack multiplicatively with Monkey City)
Income generation methods not affected by Monkey City
- Super Monkey: Support Temple's income-per-pop bonuses
- Alchemist: Lead to Gold's lead income generation bonuses, Rubber to Gold's income-per-pop bonuses
- Banana Farm: IMF Loan and Monkey-Nomics abilities.
- Monkey Village: Monkey Town income-per-pop bonuses, Monkey City's bonus cash buff
- Benjamin: Skimming, Bank "interest" bonus, Trojan, Syphon Funding.
- Geraldo: Rare Quincy Action Figure
- Valuable Bananas bonus income (i.e. bonus income from Valuable Bananas doesn't stack on top of Monkey City's buff; e.g. 4-2-0 BRF without
More Valuable Bananas would give $435 instead of $450)
- Thrive and Cash Drop
Strategy
Summary
Monkey City itself is relatively cheap for its cost, and is often bought as an upgrade after the Monkey Town. The main benefits of the Monkey City upgrade are the increased influence range and boosted income gain for all towers nearby its range. It is not a very efficient source of enhancing income gain, but it is still a useful option nonetheless.
There is one other benefit that Monkey City provides, which is its generation of free Dart Monkeys. It is a worthwhile bonus for strategies based on Super Monkey Fan Clubs, can assist in constructing the Apex Plasma Master, and can be used in Adora's Blood Sacrifices to boost her damage output for no monetary cost. Besides these three scenarios, the free Dart Monkey portion of Monkey City is inferior compared to its other upgraded benefits.
Tips
- This upgrade is useful when wanting to expand the use of multiple Dart Monkeys, especially for the use of Super Monkey Fan Club and Plasma Monkey Fan Club. Be wary that the cost of the Monkey City upgrade is offset by a total of 15 Dart Monkeys.
- This upgrade is also useful for expanding the influence radius size of the Monkey Village, particularly for expanding the space where towers are influenced by Monkey Town benefits.
- Monkey City affects any income producer, including those from income production abilities excluding IMF Loan and Monkey-Nomics. Be aware, however, that it does not affect income gained via pops (such as Monkey Town effects, Benjamin's Syphon Funding, and also Rubber to Gold).
- The towers who benefit the most out of the Monkey City's improved income effects is Supply Drop. Pairing a Monkey City with multiple Supply Drops becomes very useful, as many of these can be fit in a single area, while also benefiting from the Monkey Town effects too.
- Because the Bloon Trap is also affected by the previous Monkey Town upgrade, it therefore generates an additional ~68% with the
Inland Revenue Streams MK when collected, ~29% more than Monkey Town.
- Following the v22.0 update, the free Dart Monkeys gained per round can be used as a free sacrifice to temporarily buff Adora and any nearby Sun Avatars.
- If the player does not have
More Valuable Bananas, it is recommended to use the Greater Production crosspath with Marketplaces and above near a Monkey City, due to interactions causing Valuable Bananas marketplaces and above to not have the Valuable Banana multiplier cash boosted by Monkey City.
Version History
Balance Changes
Version 17.0 added an income bonus to Monkey City, so that upgrading to Monkey City is more worthwhile than simply upgrading Monkey Town influence range. The free Dart Monkey portion of the upgrade remains useful in certain scenarios, and has made more use with Adora's buff to bonus stats upon sacrificing any tower regardless of monetary value. Since the addition of the City income buff, the Monkey City upgrade has shifted its popularity to buffing powerful income generators, especially BRFs and BCentral. In Ranked Bosses, it still sees use purely for the increased influence range, as it means less villages have to be bought to provide all towers with Jungle Drums.
A change with Valuable Bananas interacting with Monkey City resulted in Ninja Kiwi increasing in the income bonus it provides in 36.0, to make it about the same as pre-35.0 farming in lategame.
- 17.0
Monkey City now increases all income generated from towers within radius by +10%.

“ | As currently it doesn't feel as valuable to use the City buff versus other cash producing towers, the buff Monkey City applies to other cash producing towers in radius has been increased. | ” |

Monkey City cash production bonus to towers in radius increased from 10% to 15%
- 29.0
Monkey City can now buff Monkeyopolis as intended.

[Undocumented Bug]: Monkey City will not apply to farm income increased by Valuable Bananas and
More Valuable Bananas but will still boost the portion of farm income not boosted by x2x, effectively resulting in Monkey City only providing a ~12% income boost to x2x farms and above.
- 36.0
“ | Last update included a change to the x2x Banana Farm which allowed Banks to finally receive external cash production buffs (previously none of these applied to bank path). This didn’t affect base level unbuffed farm balance, but some players noticed slight reductions in how effective buffs were when applied to other farms (320 and 023 crosspaths) due to this change, overall we’re positive about what the change means but to push back past that nerf to endgame farm synergy we balanced it out with a stronger synergy buff from villages | ” |

Monkey City income buff bonus increased (+15% → +20%)
- This effectively means any farm with Valuable Bananas and
More Valuable Bananas except Monkey Bank and above earns the same amount with Monkey City nearby as before 35.0.

- [28.0?] Monkeyopolis could be buffed by Monkey City by buying a second City nearby the City that will become Monkeyopolis. Loading the save will not keep the buff. Version 29.0 fixed it and subsequently made Monkeyopolis compatible with the Monkey City buff.

Trivia
- Monkey City clock shows the current time based on the player's device; this is similar to the Monkey Town Hall building in Bloons Monkey City.
- On every 5th minute, the minutes hand changes position, and the same applies to the hours hand.
- On the Monkey City official artwork, time is shown as around 1:55.
- The old description for Monkey City was "Gives you a free Dart Monkey every round", but was changed in an update to introduce the unstated range increase.
- Even though Version 19.0 added a separate money counter for almost all towers, it has not been yet implemented for Lead to Gold, Rubber to Gold, Monkey Town (and by extent Monkey City), or Pirate Lord.
- It is the only upgrade icon in the game to feature another tower, that is, the Dart Monkey.
