“ | Replaces arm with a strong bionic arm that can throw boomerangs extremely fast and do more damage to MOAB class Bloons. | ” |
~ In-game description |
Bionic Boomerang is the third upgrade in Path 2 for the Boomerang Monkey in Bloons TD 6. The Bionic Boomerang upgrade increases attack speed for the Boomerang Monkey by around 2.84x, from every 0.675s to every 0.238s, as well as dealing +2 damage to MOAB-class bloons.
This upgrade costs $1,060 on Easy, $1,250 on Medium, $1,350 on Hard, and $1,500 on Impoppable.
Description
Overview

This upgrade converts the monkey's right arm into a robotic boomerang launcher with two green lights at the end and adds a green lens over its right eye. These biomechanical enhancements swap to the left hand and left eye after using Change Hands. The upgrade portrait shows the monkey smiling and closing pupils, and arms open upwards with the right arm higher up, appearing to be happy about his newfound power.
Crosspathing with path 1 converts the parallel lines on its head to an X, then colors all the stripes cyan; it also throws glaives instead of boomerangs given by the upgrade of the same name. Crosspathing with path 3 gives the monkey red gloves and colors all the stripes yellow with orange lining.
Bionic Boomerang grants about 2.84x attack speed, decreasing attack cooldown from 0.675 seconds to 0.238 seconds, as well as granting the boomerangs +2 MOAB damage, for a total of 3.
Targeting Priorities
Bionic Boomerang targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. It shoots a curved movement projectile.
- First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
- Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
- Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
- Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.
Like all Boomerang Monkeys, Bionic Boomerang can access Change Hands secondary targeting priority to switch hands, changing the origin and direction of the boomerangs.

Summary
The Bionic Boomerang is usually used as a stepping stone for its higher tiers Turbo Charge and Perma Charge. It does not have much of a specific niche, being an average and well-rounded early DPS tower. Bionic Boomerang attacks moderately quickly and deals a fair amount of MOAB-class damage for its price. Most of its true power is revealed when crosspathed.
Tips
- Usually, 2-3-0 is better than 0-3-2 because the Glaives upgrade grants a lot of extra pierce over +1 damage and remaining at a small pierce.
- Place Bionic Boomerang around a good curve, in order to maximize its attack.
- The
Recurring 'Rangs MK is quite effective with this upgrade thanks to its much higher speed leading to far more Boomerangs returning to be thrown out a second time.
Version History
Balance Changes
Bionic Boomerang has been buffed slightly, and now deals extra MOAB-class damage.
Version 26.0 intended to make 2-3-0 a purely pierce path while equalizing 0-3-2's speed to the 2-3-0 path, but ended up nerfing 2-3-0 until Version 27.0 fixed this.
- 8.0
Bionic Boomerang damage to MOAB-class increased by +1
- 8.1
The +1 damage to MOABs for Bionic Boomerang now (correctly) applies to all MOAB-class bloons
- 22.0
Boomerang Monkey is now ambidextrous without any Monkey Knowledge (i.e. automatically gains Ambidextrous 'Rangs effect).
- 26.0
[Unintentional bug] Bionic Boomerang attack speed has not scaled with the base Boomerang Monkey buffs, causing 2-3-0 to become indirectly nerfed.
- 27.0

Extra Notes (Version History)
- The interpretation of the 26.0 base Boomerang buffs was different among the community. Other experts believed that the Bionic Boomerang was unaffected by the 26.0 rework, while Bloons Wiki interpreted this as an inherited buff. This was later proven in favor of the other experts with the 27.0 Bionic Boomerang buff, which is actually a bug fix listed as a balance change.
- Bionic Boomerang was not affected by the Faster Rangs attack speed buff in Version 7.0.

Trivia
- In BTD6, the Bionic Boomerang keeps its jumpsuit, while in BTD5 it loses its jumpsuit completely. Interestingly enough, Kylie Boomerang is now the upgrade that loses the Boomerang Monkey's jumpsuit when upgraded, although the Kylie Boomerang will feature Australian-inspired clothing instead of no clothing.
- Bionic Boomerang was probably inspired by the character "Quick Man" from the "Mega Man" game franchise.
