Even More Tacks

BTD6

[Source]

Shoots out 12 tacks per shot and increases Ring of Fire damage further.
~ In-game description

Even More Tacks is the second upgrade of Path 3 for the Tack Shooter in Bloons TD 6. With this upgrade, the Tack Shooter shoots 12 tacks instead of 10. Unlike More Tacks, its previous upgrade, Even More Tacks can shoot directly horizontally and directly below the Tack Shooter, as its tack formation is now similar to the number spacings of an analog clock.

There are unique crosspathing benefits that Even More Tacks provides for Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring, granting +2 damage per flame burst compared to not crosspathing with Path 3. Inferno Ring's meteor also gains +300 damage with the Even More Tacks upgrade.

Even More Tacks also provides unique benefits to Blade Maelstrom and Super Maelstrom. Blade Maelstrom's ability duration is increased by +0.5 seconds and Super Maelstrom's by +1.5 seconds, with the total benefits summing to +1.0s and +3.0s, respectively.

This upgrade costs $95 on Easy, $110 on Medium, $120 on Hard, and $130 on Impoppable.

Description

Overview

Tackshooting (2)

This upgrade adds two more barrels, for a total of 12. Density of barrels also occurs for other Tack crosspaths, although for Blade Shooter and above it adds more blades. For Blade Shooter, the blade icon gains more teeth and the circle inside the hole of the blade icon now gains a hole. Blade Maelstrom takes a totally different approach by changing the color of the entire blade icon to a dark grey.

Shoots 12 tacks instead of 10. Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring with this crosspath gains +1 damage for a total of +2 damage, and adds +300 damage (1000 damage) for the Inferno Ring meteor. Blade Maelstrom gains +0.5 seconds duration (total 4s) and Super Maelstrom gains +1.5 seconds duration (total 12s).

Targeting Priorities

Faster Shooting shoots a spray of projectiles in an radial spray. Technically, the Tack Shooter is locked on the Close targeting priority. However, for simplicity reasons, Faster Shooting has no targeting priorities.

Strategy

Summary

Similarly to its previous upgrade, More Tacks, Even More Tacks adds +4 additional projectiles compared to a base Tack Shooter. As such, it is usually used as a cheap way to improve a low-tier Tack Shooter in the early-game. It is a more effective version of its previous upgrade, serving as a cheaper version of the Tack Sprayer upgrade without the extra attack speed.

Tips

  • A 0-0-2 Tack Shooter can be purchased immediately before a round starts in up to Impoppable Mode, provided the player has at least $650 to start off with.
  • As a low-cost upgrade compared to the Tack Sprayer, it is a useful lower upgrade for earlier rounds. Upgrading to Tack Sprayer is usually the most likely crosspath for utilizing the increase of projectiles.
  • One of the best uses of Even More Tacks besides further upgrading their subsequent upgrades is in combination with Hot Shots. This will allow the Tack Shooter to deal excellent spaced bloon damage. Similarly occurs when upgrading further to Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring, but instead is far superior as effective damage versus stronger bloons.
  • Like its previous upgrade, Even More Tacks provides great benefit to the Blade Maelstrom and Super Maelstrom, giving them increased duration; though it competes with Faster Shooting and Even Faster Shooting's pierce benefits.

Version History

Balance Changes

Mostly modified crosspathing with Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring, removing the special case granting bonus pierce to each flame ring in exchange for bonus damage.

7.0
  • BUFF Base Tack attack cooldown decreased from 1.6s to 1.4s
20.0
Inferno Ring has felt very outclassed for a long time, and more recently the tack shooter was reworked to give pierce on x2x which made the old 402 pierce crosspath not make as much sense anymore. We wanted to start work on both these issues together by reworking how Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring interact with crosspaths
~ Ninja Kiwi, referring to Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring
  • NERF Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring no longer gain +20 pierce with Even More Tacks
  • BUFF Even More Tacks now grants Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring with +1 damage (3 → 4, 4 → 5 respectively)
21.0
The Ring of Fire & Inferno Ring upgrades recently received a crosspath functional rework, as we're happy with the x2x range/pierce combo now this small follow-up is just to bring a bit more impact to the short-range 402 variant.
~ Ninja Kiwi, referring to Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring
  • BUFF Even More Tacks now adds more damage bonus to Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring (+1 → +2).
30.0
[...] Inferno Ring itself feels ok but for the difficult saveup not so much, so as a bit of a buff we have added crosspathing to the Meteor attack.
~ Ninja Kiwi, referring to Inferno Ring with Tier 2 crosspaths
  • BUFF Even More Tacks now adds +300 damage to Inferno Ring meteor
38.0
[...] Maelstrom crosspathing? Why not, feels that this could be cool to try out, and more consistency on bottom crosspath may be able to make it the preferred ability crosspath while top path which already improves the base tower more will give back the massive pierce amount for times where the greater punch per use is required.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • Change More Tacks causes Blade Maelstrom to change rotation direction to counter-clockwise
  • BUFF Even More Tacks now increases Blade Maelstrom duration by 0.5s on top of More Tacks (3s → 4s)
  • BUFF Even More Tacks now increases Super Maelstrom duration by 1.5s on top of More Tacks (9s → 12s)
43.0
Tack is a very powerful base tower technically, but it is unable to achieve high uptime of that potential power in many early rounds, so some base cost is moving into the cheaper xx1 and xx2 upgrades to make it easier for other towers to start alongside the tack. [...]
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • NERF Even More Tacks price increased from $100 to $110
    • Total price adjustment is $0 due to base Tack (-$20) and More Tacks (+$10)
46.0
Every Tack Shooter Tier 3 needed a different attack rate boost, so to tidy this up we’ve moved much of that rate to the base tack shooter. [...]
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Base Tack attack cooldown decreased from 1.4s to 1.12s

Trivia

  • Even More Tacks adds extra damage to Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring despite neither upgrade involving shooting tacks. This is likely because the increased number of fire barrels increases the intensity of the flame attack, thus can penetrate deeper into the bloons.
    • Prior to Version 20.0, both Even More Tacks and More Tacks affected pierce, but this has since changed to a damage bonus for exclusively the Even More Tacks upgrade.
    • But since Version 21.0, the damage buff now applies to both Path 3 upgrades.
  • It is the cheapest Tier 2 upgrade in the game, costing only $100 on Medium.
  • The upgrade icon for Even More Tacks shows three tacks being shot out, but in reality this upgrade only adds two more tacks to the Tack Shooter.
