More Tacks

BTD6

[Source]

Shoots 10 tacks instead of 8, plus increases Ring of Fire damage.
~ In-game description

More Tacks is the first upgrade of Path 3 for the Tack Shooter in Bloons TD 6. With this upgrade, the Tack Shooter shoots 10 tacks instead of 8. However, the arrangement of the tack formation is modified, preventing the Tack Shooter from shooting directly horizontally or directly below, until Even More Tacks is purchased.

Additionally, the More Tacks crosspaths modify other Tack Shooter upgrades too. When crosspathed with Ring of Fire or Inferno Ring, it adds +1 damage to flame rings. When crosspathed with Blade Maelstrom or Super Maelstrom, the Maelstrom will change spinning direction to counter-clockwise and increase in duration, the 0-4-1 lasting 0.5 seconds longer and the 0-4-2 lasting 1.5 seconds longer.

This upgrade costs $95 on Easy, $110 on Medium, $120 on Hard, and $130 on Impoppable.

Description

Overview

Tackshooting (1)

This upgrade adds two more barrels, for a total of 10. It also replaces the flanged base with a circular base. Density of barrels also occurs for other Tack crosspaths, although for Blade Shooter and above it adds more blades. For Blade Shooter, the blade icon gains more teeth and there is now a circle inside the hole of the blade icon. Blade Maelstrom takes a totally different approach by filling the color of the blade icon with dark grey.

The Tack Shooter shoots 10 tacks instead of 8. Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring with this crosspath gains +1 damage. 0-4-1 Blade Maelstrom lasts 0.5 seconds longer (total 3.5 seconds) and 0-5-1 Super Maelstrom lasts 1.5 seconds longer (total 10.5 seconds). Both Maelstroms will also spin counter-clockwise instead of clockwise.

Targeting Priorities

More Tacks shoots a spray of projectiles in an radial fashion. The Tack Shooter has no explicit Targeting Priority, but it is technically locked to Close whenever the Pierce capacity is reached.

Strategy

Summary

For a rather low price, More Tacks adds +2 bonus projectiles. As such, it is usually used as a cheap way to improve a low-tier Tack Shooter in the early game. It is usually a stepping stone to its further upgrades, but in itself it can be useful in a very few special scenarios.

Tips

  • Blade Shooter and its upgrades generally benefit more from the top crosspath, although Blade Maelstrom and Super Maelstrom abilities benefit greatly from the increased ability duration. The difference in Maelstrom spin direction can be key on certain maps.
  • Inferno Ring generally prefers the middle crosspath as it gives it more area where it can damage the bloons.
    • The bottom crosspath can achieve similar damage, but only if the placement is unfavourable to the additional range.
  • In a few cases, More Tacks can be a clutch benefit in certain situations. For instance, a slight change in tack density can make a noticeable difference positively.

Version History

Balance Changes

Mostly modified crosspathing with Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring, removing the special case granting bonus pierce to each flame ring in exchange for bonus damage. Version 38.0 gave it crosspathing interactions with Blade Maelstrom and Super Maelstrom.

7.0
  • BUFF Base Tack attack cooldown decreased from 1.6s to 1.4s
20.0
Inferno Ring has felt very outclassed for a long time, and more recently the tack shooter was reworked to give pierce on x2x which made the old 402 pierce crosspath not make as much sense anymore. We wanted to start work on both these issues together by reworking how Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring interact with crosspaths
~ Ninja Kiwi, referring to Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring
  • NERF Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring no longer gain +10 pierce with More Tacks
21.0
The Ring of Fire & Inferno Ring upgrades recently received a crosspath functional rework, as we're happy with the x2x range/pierce combo now this small follow-up is just to bring a bit more impact to the short-range 402 variant.
~ Ninja Kiwi, referring to Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring
  • BUFF Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring gain +1 damage with More Tacks
  • Change Description was changed from "Shoots 10 tacks instead of 8." to "Shoots 10 tacks instead of 8, plus increases Ring of Fire damage."
38.0
[...] Maelstrom crosspathing? Why not, feels that this could be cool to try out, and more consistency on bottom crosspath may be able to make it the preferred ability crosspath while top path which already improves the base tower more will give back the massive pierce amount for times where the greater punch per use is required.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • Change More Tacks causes Blade Maelstrom to change rotation direction to counter-clockwise
  • BUFF More Tacks now increases Blade Maelstrom duration by 0.5s (3s → 3.5s)
  • BUFF More Tacks now increases Super Maelstrom duration by 1.5s (9s → 10.5s)
43.0
Tack is a very powerful base tower technically, but it is unable to achieve high uptime of that potential power in many early rounds, so some base cost is moving into the cheaper xx1 and xx2 upgrades to make it easier for other towers to start alongside the tack. [...]
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • NERF More Tacks price increased from $100 to $110
    • Total price adjustment is -$10 due to base Tack (-$20)
46.0
Every Tack Shooter Tier 3 needed a different attack rate boost, so to tidy this up we’ve moved much of that rate to the base tack shooter. [...]

  • BUFF Base Tack attack cooldown decreased from 1.4s to 1.12s

Trivia

  • More Tacks is one of four upgrades in the game whereby the cost of the Path 3 Tier 1 upgrade cost is exactly the same as the cost of the Path 3 Tier 2 upgrade, the other being Sniper Monkey's Fast Firing and Even Faster Firing, Monkey Village's Monkey Business and Monkey Commerce, and Wizard Monkey's Intense Magic and Monkey Sense.
  • On Version 20.0, the 0-1-3 Marketplace (with Long Life Bananas) and the 4-0-1 Ring of Fire (with More Tacks) were both upgrade crosspaths with no benefits compared to their no-crosspath counterparts. This is no longer the case, because 4-0-1 Ring of Fire as of Version 21.0 now adds +1 damage.
  • The upgrade icon for More Tacks shows two tacks being shot out, even though technically the Tack Shooter only shoots out 1.25x the tacks compared to before the upgrade.
