Issue 120

Issue 120 is the one hundred and twentieth edition of Sonic the Comic, the UK's official SEGA comic. Released on the 31st of December 1997, at the price of £1.25, the issue contained four original stories and several features, as well as a pin-up. This issue started the third era of Sonic the Comic, with a completely new look.

Strips

Sonic the Hedgehog

Riot Resolution is a complete story starring Sonic the Hedgehog, with a script from Lew Stringer, art by Roberto Corona, colouring by Nigel Dobbyn and lettering by Gordon Robson. A few of the more indecisive Emerald Hill folk have been tricked by Wally Dithers into making a New Year's Resolution - kill Sonic! Dithers is actually a member of the Doctor Robotnik Appreciation Tribe but, together with Grand Chief Whip and the brainwashed civilians, the villain is dealt with before he can destroy the home of the Freedom Fighters.

Tails + Knuckles

New Year Twister is a complete story, featuring a team-up between Tails and Knuckles the Echidna. Created by Stringer, Carl Flint, John M Burns and Tom Frame, the story sees Tails fly to the Floating Island under the pretense that he has come to wish Knuckles a happy Christmas. Several odd disasters later and Knuckles discovers that he and Sonic just came to test his powers.

Decap Attack

Chuck's Savings is a Decap Attack complete story, with scripting and art by Nigel Kitching and lettering by Ellie de Ville. Igor has tricked Chuck D. Head into signing on with the Transylvanian Friendly Bank. After a severe beating, it's Chuck who gets the last laugh - he's signed Igor up for medical experimentation.

Amy & Tekno

Breakout is a 2-part Amy & Tekno story, featuring Shortfuse the Cybernik. Written by Stringer, with art by Corona and [[Steve White] and lettering from Robson, Shortfuse is freed from his armour by Amber before she leaves. Their New Year party is cut short by the Party Pooper, who inadvertantly activates Vermin the Cybernik and frees him from prison.

Features

In this issue's Control Zone, Megadroid welcomes Boomers to this week's 4 all-new stories, as well as the all-new look to Sonic the Comic from now on. The first issue of 1998 is also marked by a competition announcement to win Sonic baseball jackets, although the competition itself isn't until Issue 121.

Speedlines has the usual mix of letters and pictures, with questions about the Sega Channel, Super Sonic's first appearance and a request for more Chaotix Crew. Pictures centre around the new year. Winners received an enamel badge. The theme of this issue's Graphic Zone is '98 Resolutions, suggesting the characters in the pictures are trying new things.
