Alumi

Alumi (あるみ Arumi) is one of the villagers of Ishigami Village. She is the mother of Carbo and the wife of Natri.

Appearance

Alumi is an older woman, shrunken with age. She has fairly straight, mid-length hair that's shorter in the front and longer at the back. Her eyebrows are thin and black, mostly hidden behind her hair. Her eyes are quite large but droopy, having crow's feet and visible sagging underneath. She has laugh lines around her mouth and no visible lips. She generally has a happy expression on her face.

She wears an olive-green dress with sleeves ending just above her elbows, with the rest of it ending above her ankles. Alumi wears no belt, and instead opts to wear the village rope around her neck, resting on top of what looks like even more, thinner ropes.

Personality

Alumi is sweet and quietly thoughtful, taking a similar relaxed approach to the events of the story as Natri does. She seems wise in her age, having lived through a lot of events in Ishigami Village. She seems to be particularly interested in making sure everyone will survive, first commenting on possible losses in the winter, then asking if anyone died after the fight against the Tsukasa Empire, then saying they'll never have to lose anyone to starvation thanks to the hot air balloon's map. She's probably lost many friends and family over the years.

Abilities and Skills

Alumi seems to be in quite good health, helping the children make the gold thread needed for the cellphone. Apart from that, Alumi is never shown doing much else other than hanging around people-watching.

Synopsis

Alumi is first shown alongside Natri, listening to the discussion on the new outsider that arrived outside the village. She does not seem to have any opinion on it.[3] During the Grand Bout, she does not appear at all in the manga but is shown in the background in the anime.[4]

While making the cellphone, she helps the children twist the gold wire. She comments that she hopes they won't lose anyone over the winter due to the cold.[5] After the car is finished, she speaks alongside Natri to persuade Senku and the others that they'll be staying, and trust them to beat the Tsukasa Empire before they're in any danger.[6] She is then relieved when Chrome sends the call back to the village telling them they won.[7]

When Gen announces the boat design competition, Alumi asks Sho what the call from Mantle was about.[8] After the Kingdom of Science gain a hot air balloon and map the surrounding area, Alumi cries with relief that they'll never have to lose anyone to starvation ever again.[9]

Relationships

Natri

Alumi spends a lot of time with her husband, Natri. It's rare for them to be depicted apart from each other, usually sharing the same panel/shot. They chat a lot about the goings-on in Ishigami Village and enjoy each other's company.

Trivia

  • Alumi is named after Aluminum, the 13th element of the periodic table.
  • Once the cellphones are set up, Alumi seems to stay near the one in Ishigami Village waiting for calls from Roppongi Hills, then later near the one set up for use as a GPS.
