Summary
Ginro, understandably afraid to return to the sulfur lake after his spear turned black and several birds died, refuses to go back with them. Senku says to just leave him behind since he'd only delay them, but fixes the silver spear to be silver again. Together, Chrome and Senku return to the lake.
Once there with their new gas masks, Chrome pauses, praying that the masks will "defeat" Sulfurina. By comparison, Senku stomps straight into the danger zone. Chrome wonders how he can do it so confidently, but Senku says that fear means death if you end up breathing too heavily. Chrome also notices that Senku is shaking, and only putting on a brave face for him. This fills him with more confidence.
Back at the village, Ginro attempts to convince himself he did the right thing while Kaseki listens to the rant. Kaseki reassures him that feeling fear doesn't make you weak, it's there to help you survive and that no one's immune to it. Kaseki says they're all out there facing their fears. He accidentally makes an extra gas mask as well, and leaves it on the ground before heading back to the village.
In the sulfur lake, Senku collects materials from the banks. Chrome notices that a bit of acid splashed onto Senku's air tube, and they fix it before anything bad happens. But then something bad happens: Chrome slips, falling towards the lake. Senku tries to rush over to help but he won't make it in time. At the last moment, Ginro catches him on the end of his spear, struggling to keep him upright.
Senku warns him that he needs to start breathing evenly otherwise the gas mask won't be able to keep up. Ginro overcomes his fears, and throws Chrome to safety.
