Milo

Milo is a character that was introduced in Generation VIII. He is a Gym Leader in the Galar region that specializes in Grass-type Pokémon.

Appearance

Milo is a huge, muscular, young man. He has peach-colored hair, green eyes, fair skin, and several freckles above his nose. He wears a beige sun-hat with a green, grass-esque triangles around the crown, a white t-shirt with some green, grass-esque triangles, some black triangles, and the Gym Challenge and Grass-type symbols on it, green-and-black shorts, and matching black-and-green boots with a bush design. He also wears a matching green-and-black glove on his right hand and a Dynamax Band to carry his Poké Balls; he also has a black contraption that he sets on his hip.

Personality

Easygoing and humble, Milo is kind and has a big heart. He is also a hard worker and likes to encourage people, and his main principle is to "simply enjoy battling and have fun", thus his Gym is one of the easier ones that gets many challengers. In battle, Milo shows surprising fearlessness and persistence with his Pokémon; which is noted by his fellow Gym Leaders.

Biography

Before the events of the games, Milo was born in Turffield to a farmer couple. He also has a little brother that he does farm work with (according to his concept art), although the player character never meets him.

Milo League Card

This Trainer was born as the son of farmers. He has honed his strength, stamina, and skill as a Pokémon Trainer from a young age by working together with his Pokémon. Because of his gentle nature, he has trouble going all out on weaker opponents, which is why his Gym is the first one for challengers to attempt during the Gym Challenge. He always wears his boots, as apparently they let him dig in his heels when he needs to.

Milo Rare League Card

Though his record isn't the best due to his focus on simply having fun in battles, Milo himself is incredibly strong. The rolls of hay used in his Gym Challenge each weigh over 770 pounds, yet Milo can roll them around easily. Wooloo tend to roll around, too, and sometimes they can get carried away and roll out of the Gym Stadium. It has become common in Turffield to see the whole town chasing after Milo, who is in turn chasing after a stray Wooloo, along with Yamper.

Trivia

  • Milo's uniform number, 831, can be read in Japanese as "yasai," meaning "vegetable."
  • During the story in The Crown Tundra, Peony claims that Regirock has a striking resemblance to him.
  • Milo's name likely comes from a portmanteau of "mill" and "silo," structures used in the processing and storage of grain, as he's a farmer. It may also come from Achillea millefolium, the scientific name for the yarrow plant.
  • Yarō, his Japanese name, likely comes from yarrow and 野 (ya, plains).
  • During his initial battle with the player, his Eldegoss is level 20, making it the highest level Pokémon owned by a first Gym Leader.
