Needs more info

Avery is a young man with blue eyes and long straight blonde hair. He is usually seen wearing round glasses. Floating Poké Balls can be seen levitating around his hat.

Personality

Although outwardly gentlemanly and well-mannered, Avery has a prideful heart and regards his opponents as formidable. His catchphrase is "elegant" and he has a tendency of using metaphors that involve Psychic-type moves and Pokémon. Thanks to Mustard and Honey's guidance, he appears to have mellowed out and become a kinder person. However, there are times when he would deploy underhanded tactics, which led to Mustard sentencing him to look after the Dojo's Pokémon for six months.

Avery looks down on Bede in part due to him abandoning Psychic-types for Fairy-types.

Avery sometimes has difficulty accepting losses, as shown through his defeat animation where he stops levitating the Poké Balls on his head as he looks down in complete shock.

Biography

Avery is a Psychic-type master, being a psychic himself. It is mentioned on his League Card that he was a "disappointment" due to not being able to master all the skills of a psychic, such as telepathy or teleportation. Later, he became a Gym Leader, but his position was taken after levitating any opponent who defeated him. He then migrated to the Master Dojo, training with Mustard before being granted the position as Gym Leader once more.

Games

Avery appears in the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass The Isle of Armor.

Regular League Card

Avery comes from a long-standing family of psychics. Each Psychic-type Gym Leader of Galar has been from the same bloodline as Avery, and thus, Avery has been destined to bear the burden of Gym Leader since even before he was born. Ever since he was a child, Avery could freely move things with his mind but lacked other skills, such as teleportation or telepathy. This has caused the rest of his family to label him as a disappointment. Avery has a great deal of respect for Slowpoke, as they go about their business at their own pace, no matter what others say.

Rare League Card

Avery has always been very proud and would levitate any opponent who dared defeat him. This behavior caused his status as a Gym Trainer to be revoked. During this time of despair and desperation, his Slowpoke found a flyer for the Master Dojo, leading to Avery's current circumstances. Avery caused friction with many of the other students initially, but the kindness of Honey and Mustard slowly helped him to mellow out and become more friendly. Recently he has been training hard with his now-evolved Slowbro to prove himself better than a certain new student at the dojo.
