Ijuna is a woman of average height with short, maroon hair, and red eyes. She wears a navy blue sleeveless catsuit, with a separate collar, a white trim, an opening that exposes a portion of her breasts and leads partially ripped by her abdomen, and red heels.[1] When she was a member of Oasis she had shoulder-length hair and wore a lighter-colored attire.[2]

Personality

Synopsis

History

She was a member of Oasis and the daughter of the previous leader. One day she asked Laguna if he believes in the red string of destiny, which she states that she does and thinks that the man of her destiny, tied by an invisible thread, is somewhere in the cosmos. She then states how the red string is a bond that ties souls together and that it links a person to someone else, even if it cannot be seen. When Laguna jokes that it is linking her to him, she blushes and expresses her annoyance of him.[3] Sometime after her father died in a battle against Nero's army, resulting Laguna depart from Oasis, she supposedly died during a rescue mission on Nero 1. However, she was actually captured, where she was tortured and humiliated by Shura. Eventually, she pitied Shura after realizing that he never loved anyone and has never been loved, leading her to see it as the red string of destiny and developed Stockholm Syndrome.[4] In truth, she developed the Ether Gear Red Destiny, and whether she meant to or not, used it to tie herself to Shura.[5]

Foresta arc

Nero's officials assembled Anime

Ijuna attends the meeting on Nero 1, standing silently as Poseidon Nero informs the Oceans 6 and his son Shura that Foresta has been violated by Ziggy.[6] When Nero leaves the meeting, she complies with Shura and uses her holographic terminal, transferring the official command of Oceans 6 in regard to the situation with the Demon King to the prince.[1] As Shura levitates several of the objects around him upside down in a room, she informs the prince that everything is ready for their departure to Nero 66. Ijuna remains impassive when Shura callously kills Cyca with Satan Gravity in front of the Oceans 6.[7]

Sandra arc

On Nero 66, Ijuna informs Shura, who is relaxing at the pool resort with the Oceans 6, that they have an uninvited guest approaching the planet; the Interstellar Union Army.[8]

Nero 66 arc

Following Shura to the command center, Ijuna answers the prince's question that the intruder is Eraser of the Oración Seis Interstellar. She stands silently next to Shura who sits down on his chair, casually and lazily ordering the Imperial Army general to shoot down the small Interstellar Union Army fleet.[9] Noticing the general briefly glancing at her, Ijuna asks him in curiosity which the older man tells her that she should not be here. She remains silent when Shura chokes the general to death with Satan Gravity when the latter is about to mention who she used to be.[10] Ijuna stays with Shura after he captures Witch and restrains her in a cell. When the android awakens and Shura remarks how well made she is, Ijuna lists Witch's information, including her alias as the Steel Sorceress. She stays silent as the prince begins torturing the android.[11] Later on, Ijuna observes the defeat of Callum and Lyra while noticing the Edens Zero Crew approaching the Imperial Army military base from the monitors. She derides the Oceans to be useless, while having a serene smile on her face.[12]

Ijuna leaves a web of strings in the hallway to Shura, where Shiki's group finds it. When Shiki grabs a hold of one, it binds him together with Rebecca, making them fall in love with each other. Happy intervenes by cutting the string, but the two immediately start fighting each other. Ijuna arrives and explains how her Ether Gear, Red Destiny, works and that the two will not stop until one of them is dead. When Mosco tries to knock her out, she uses her strings to tie him up. She chuckles as Shiki and Rebecca proclaim their hate for each other. However, that quickly changes to surprise after seeing them turn into water and finds that Laguna was the cause as he puts them into a bottle. She stays silent as he gives the bottle to the small bots and instructs them to rescue Witch. After the two leave, Laguna is surprised that she just let them go so easily, Ijuna then utters his full name, making him recognize her and asks if she is the "Princess". However, she tells him to not call her that, saying that she abandoned Oasis like him.[13]

String Matrix

Ijuna retorts to Laguna that his "Princess" is dead, declaring that she is an Imperial soldier now before using her Ether Gear to attack him. She is pushed by Laguna's water and retorts his accusation at her for betraying Oasis and their friends for doing the same. After hearing him stating his reason of leaving the rebel army, Ijuna notes that he joined Oasis after the Nero Empire killed his best friend. Blocking Laguna's water attack with her red strings, she strikes him in the chest while brushing off her father's murder. When Laguna asks what happened to her, she reveals that it is "the red string of destiny".[14] She corrects Laguna that she is tied to Shura, proclaiming that he is the man of her destiny. Ijuna declares that no one can fight their destiny. Dodging Laguna's water blast, she states that the one opening their eyes will be him and strikes him in the arm with her red strings. Ijuna declares that he will see that no one will defeat the empire as she knocks him down on the floor. She uses String Matrix to quickly block Laguna's Tears Arrow. Ijuna explains that her Ether-steeled thread blocks everything and pierces everything, demonstrating by penetrating and sewing Laguna from multiple directions. She boasts to him that not even Goodwin could beat her, and states that she will kill anyone who tries to get in Shura's way, even him. Ijuna kicks Laguna in the stomach for calling her devotion to Shura as brainwashing before telling him a story.[15]

She reveals that she was captured during her rescue mission and was tortured and humiliated by Shura every day, almost killing her. Embracing herself, Ijuna fondly recalls taking out her out for a walk by stripping her naked, putting a leash on her, and marching her like a dog with questioning looks and mocking voices from the citizens before adding that the prince placed a bomb in her rectum much to Laguna's discomfort. Stepping on his head, she insists that he keeps listening and continues her that after enduring such days, she realized that the prince was lonely, where he has never loved anyone and has never been loved, not even by his own father. Ijuna states that she eventually came to pity him and saw it as "the red string of destiny". After Laguna's retort that it is Stockholm Syndrome, she says that she would not expect him to understand and that will never know the strength of destiny's bonds.[16]

Tears Wave

Ijuna tells Laguna that what makes Shura strong is that he does not know love and that he would take a life without a moment's hesitation. She pulls her red strings tightly around Laguna's neck, stating that she needs to learn from his example before bidding him goodbye and severing his head. However, she is shocked when Laguna's head and body turns into water, learning that he made himself cry in order to do that. She is elbowed in the jaw by him who emerges from his puddle and proclaims that it is Acting 101. Landing on her feet, she uses String Needle to attack Laguna, who dodges it with ease. Being questioned how she learned her Ether Gear, Ijuna reveals that she learned it in the empire and explains how her Red Destiny works, deeming it a perfect power for her. She is shocked to hear Laguna calling her an actor and deduced that she used her Ether Gear on herself. Ijuna denies it, believing she and Shura are joined by destiny and tells Laguna to shut up, asking what does he know about a couple bound by destiny. Charging towards her enemy, Ijuna yells that she is an Imperial soldier and fights for Shura. She attacks Laguna with her red threads but the latter's water washes them away much to her surprise. She tries to rebuke Laguna's remark that her heart is weakening before she is defeated by his Tears Wave. Shedding tears, Ijuna turns into water and her red string tied to Shura breaks. She returns to normal as she is caught in Laguna's arms. Freed, she asks Laguna what happened before questioning about the sumo bot standing there.[17]

Shura embracing Ijuna

Ijuna tells Laguna the location of the All-Link System before she is turned into water and placed within a water bottle.[18] However, she somehow managed to escape undetected before Laguna heads to the Edens Zero.[19] Ijuna confronts a defeated Shura in the empty bridge of the command center. She listens as Shura believes that she is here to kill him for vengeance and explains that he already figured out about her Ether Gear and its effect on him. She states that she did not know when she obtained her Ether Gear and believes that she gained it to defend herself. However, Ijuna reveals that it never worked on Shura and her powers do not work on targets who have never known love, stating that her love for him was one-sided. She then hugs him, telling him that the spark of love has kindled inside him and herself, and that her false love for him eventually turned real. When a crying Shura retorts that he is a monster, she tearfully admits that despite everything he had done to her, she is garbage enough to truly love him. As Shura returns the hug, Ijuna states that there is someone who loves him and someone he loves in return, declaring that his tears do not come from a monster, but from the human heart. The two are then vaporized by the 20,000 antimatter bombs' explosion.[20]

Powers and Abilities

Red Destiny (レッドデスティニー Reddo Desutinī): Ijuna is capable of creating strings made of Ether that, when touched by someone, binds the victim to the nearest person to them and causing the two to immediately fall in love with each other. However, when the string connecting them breaks apart, it changes that love into hatred and forces the victims to fight each other until one of them is dead. Ijuna can also utilize these strings to tie up a person, thereby preventing them from moving.[21] These strings can also be used for either defense, by weaving them into a physical barrier, or offense, using them to pierce through targets with incredible destructive power.[22] However, it does not affect people who have never known love.[23]

  • String Matrix (ストリングマトリクス Sutoringu Matorikusu): Ijuna uses her string to make a wall that is able to block oncoming attacks, even those made of nonsolid matter such as water.[22]
  • Sewing (縫 Sōingu): After piercing a target with her thread, Ijuna motions her fingers in a pattern that causes the strings to sew onto her target, causing them a great deal of pain.[24]
  • String Needle (ストリングニードル Sutoringu Nīdoru): Ijuna sends several of her strings at her target to pierce them.[25]

Empire Ether (エンパイアエーテル Enpaia Ēteru): Ijuna is able to forcibly reconfigure another person's Ether,[26] in her case, forcing two people to fall in love and hate each other with her string.[21]

Master Hand-to-Hand Combat: Ijuna has shown impressive fighting prowess, noting that even Goodwin could not defeat her,[27] despite not having an Ether Gear during her time with Oasis.[28]
