The System is the main antagonist of the Blake's 7 second season opening episode "Redemption".
History
The System was a computer created by one of three planets who were at war with each other. It took over the computers of the other three planets, ending the war but also placing itself in control of the star system. It enslaved the humanoid population, with its will enforced by the Altas, a group of mechanically-modified humanoids who were directly linked into the System, and their guards.
At one point, one of the System's deep space vehicles was abandoned after a space battle and fell into the hands of Blake and his crew, who named it the Liberator. The System sent its craft after it, attacking and disabling the ship. It also gained control of the ship's computer Zen and prevented the crew from effecting repairs, resulting in the Liberator drifting into its territory where the crew were taken prisoner.
The System intended to have the crew executed but first attempted to interrogate Blake over how the Liberator came to be in his possession. However, during the interrogation the System began to break down, constantly repeating the same phrases, as a result of the super computer Orac interfering with it. This lapse resulted in a slave revolt, during which the Liberator crew were able to escape back to their ship and launch. A group of guards were teleported aboard the ship but Cally teleported them back to the System's control room as they were about to throw their grenades, which exploded there. Either as a result of this, a result of Orac's sabotage or both, Alta One, in contact with the System, began chanting "Destruct. Destruct."
While the System's fate after that is unclear, it did last long enough to send another deep space vehicle after the Liberator. However, it was destroyed when Orac jammed its weapons systems, causing it to explode when it tried to open fire.
