Gunn Sar is the secondary antagonist of the Blake's 7 episode "Power".
He was portrayed by Dicken Ashworth.
Biography
Gunn Sar was the leader of the male-dominated Hommik tribe on the planet Xenon. He had become leader by killing his predecessor, Maravik, in single combat. His tribe persecuted the female Seskas, capturing them and surgically removing the dynamon crystals that gave them telekinetic powers. Any sons they bore were welcomed into the tribe, while females were abandoned. Gunn Sar had taken the former Seska leader Nina as his wife. He was violent towards her on occasion but also showed her affection at times and noted he would rather take her advice than a computer.
Since becoming leader, he had faced twenty-six challengers to his position, killing at least twenty-five, with the other officially listed as missing after falling off a bottomless cliff. He seemed popular and capable but also unintelligent, needing his advisor Cato to help him with official declarations and unaware of the remnants of the planet's fallen civilisation's technology left lying about.
He encountered Avon when the latter was captured by Gunn Sar's men while searching for dynamon crystals to complete Scorpio's teleport. When Gunn Sar made to strike Nina, Avon interceded and challenged him to combat. Gunn Sar selected a sword as a weapon while Avon asked for only a glove, using it to pull a power rod from a nearby junction box while he used to sever Gunn Sar's sword. He was promptly knocked out by Gunn Sar's men and locked up, but later escaped.
Gunn Sar then met the rest of the surviving Liberator crew, Tarrant, Vila and Dayna, when they were also captured by his men. Dayna challenged him but seemed to doubt herself when he shrugged off her punching him. As they fought, unknown to either combatant, surviving Seskas Pella and Nina, who were watching the duel, used their telekinetic powers to boost Dayna's strength as she threw Gunn Sar away from her. Gunn Sar struck his head and was killed.
