Biography
Deral was a Terran Federation officer who served as the captain of Servalan's flagship. His authority on the ship appeared to be somewhat nominal, with Servalan giving orders to his subordinate Ginka directly and Ginka in return reporting to Servalan rather than Deral. The two officers had a tense relationship; Deral viewed Ginka as insubordinate, while Ginka saw Deral as having been made captain ahead of him because of his connections.
Deral assisted Servalan in waylaying Pilot Two Zero of an Auron space vehicle and then infecting him with a pathogen that, on his return to his home planet, soon spread to the rest of his people. The Federation used this as an excuse to head to Auron, ostensibly to offer a cure. Servalan explained her interest in Auron to Deral: She wanted to make use of its cloning technology and also to capture the Liberator, which she predicted would also head to Auron to offer assistance. Deral accompanied Servalan on a trip to the replication plant, where she convinced Clinician Franton to add her genetic code to the next batch of cloned children.
After the Federation had taken control of the central complex and taken Avon, Tarrant and Cally prisoner, Servalan arranged for Deral to be teleported up to the Liberator, supposedly to negotiate as her representative but really to take the ship over. However, Servalan had mistakenly assumed Vila was on his own on the ship, and the tables were quickly turned when Deral was surprised by Dayna and the Auron Patar and taken prisoner. He was reluctant to co-operate with his captors, knowing Servalan would kill him if he helped them, but Vila replied that she would anyway.
When Avon and the others were freed by Franton, Deral correctly guessed that she would lead them back to the replication plant, knowing Servalan wouldn't risk destroying it while her children were being cultivated there. This allowed Dayna to teleport down with spare bracelets and retrieve their friends, along with Franton and a set of brood units. Despite Deral's protests, Avon and Tarrant promptly teleported him back to Servalan's ship, telling him to let her know they'd survived. Deral was promptly killed by Servalan with the press of a button.
