Joban is a minor antagonist in the Blake's 7 episode "Hostage".
He was portrayed by the late Kevin Stoney, who also played Mavic Chen and Tobias Vaughn in Doctor Who.
Biography
Councillor Joban was a senior political figure in the Terran Federation. He met Supreme Commander Servalan at her command headquarters, having heard that her latest attempt to ambush the Liberator had failed despite the logistical output. He told her that despite there being no public spacecasts on the subject, many people were aware of the activities of both Blake and the renegade officer Travis. Servalan insisted such a security breach must be punished but Joban was more concerned with the fact that Blake was seen as a hero.
Joban reminded Servalan that he had supported her appointment and wondered if he was wrong, saying he made a dangerous enemy. Servalan replied that she did as well. Joban noted that the Federation Council was calling for Blake's head and Servalan assured him they would have it. Joban reiterated that he would not like to think he had been wrong in his choice.
Later, while Servalan was en route to Exbar having received a tip-off that Travis was on the planet, Joban attempted to contact her but Servalan told her Mutoids to ignore the message.
Trivia
- Kevin Stoney would appear two seasons later as Ardus, a former officer of the Federation War Department. There has been speculation that Ardus was Joban under a new identity, given the shift in the Federation during that period and his familiarity with Servalan.
