Mr. X

Mr. X is the main antagonist of the first three Streets of Rage titles, and the father of the antagonists of Streets of Rage 4 antagonists Mr. Y and Ms. Y.

Appearance

Mr. X is a towering man with long slick backed black hair. He is constantly seen wearing a green suit, white shirt, a red tie and is frequently seen with his tommygun.

History

Streets of Rage

Mr X started up the Syndicate, a criminal organisation and hired some of the most notorious criminals in the country to come work for him. He set his eyes on Wood Oak City, planning to overthrow the government officials and become the new rulers of the city, planning to plunge the city into absolute anarchy as their personal looting and rampaging grounds. With his seemingly endless supply of wealth he even managed to control the government and the Wood Oak City Police, preventing the arrest of many of his men.

Unfortunately for Mr. X, three ex-police officers, sick of the chaos that was enveloping the city handed in their badges and took to the streets to clean it up as vigilantes. These three managed to defeat every single one of his underlings and eventually making it to Syndicate Headquarters, the tower in which he resided to personally put a stop to his actions. Cooly and confidently, sat in his throne like chair, Mr. X offered Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding and Adam Hunter the opportunity to become his right hand man and rule the city at his side, but all three turned him down.

In response Mr. X sent wave after wave of his henchmen to kill the trio until it became obvious that his men weren't up to the task, and he himself finally stood up from his seat, tommygun in tow and engaged the ex-policemen in a fight, firing when he was far away, or rushing forward and hitting his opponents with the butt of his gun. He ultimately loses the fight, being knocked unconcious by Axel, Blaze and Adam and peace is restored to the city, albeit briefly.

Streets of Rage 2

One year later, Mr. X has been plotting his revenge against the trio, and manages to break into Adam Hunter's apartment, overcome him with his men and has him tied up in chains, thrown at his feet and a picture taken of the scene to lure Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding out of hiding to come rescue their friend. Once again he throws his hitmen and henchmen in their paths in an effort to kill them, but alongside Adam's brother, Eddie "Skate" Hunter and Axel's friend Max Thunder, they overcome all of his employees, make their way through the elevator full of enemies and even manage to defeat Shiva, Mr. X's skilled and deadly right hand man. Upon Shiva's defeat Mr. X once again rises out of his chair, grabs his tommygun and begins firing at his enemies whilst his henchmen attempt to dogpile the heroes. Once again this is a battle Mr. X loses, and he lays beaten and defeated as Axel, Blaze, Skate and Max rescue Adam from his cell.

Streets of Rage 3

Mr. X's next plan varies depending on the version of Streets of Rage 3 that is being played.

America

Mr. X has been laying low using RoboCy Corporation as a front for The Syndicate. He hires a genius, but eccentric robotist known as Dr. Dahm to aid him in his latest plan; to replace key city officials with exact robotic replicas allowing him to control Wood Oak City remotely. To divert police attention away from these actions he has bombs planted all around the city by his men to keep them busy. Dr. Gilbert Zan, a RoboCy Corporation researcher accidentally comes across the files proving the connection between the company and The Syndicate. Due to his criminal record he cannot go to the police, and instead goes to Blaze Fielding who has set herself up as a private eye.

Japan

Mr. X's plans involved the use of a highly dangerous explosive weapon known as 'Rakushin'. He has a robotic version of Axel Stone made to frame him for the kidnapping of a Lima region representative, Ivan Petrov. Rakushin has been placed all around the city once again to keep the police busy.

Either way, Adam Hunter goes off to deal with the explosives, whilst Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding and Eddie "Skate" Hunter team up with Dr. Gilbert Zan who knows the inner workings of Mr. X's plans. Once again after defeating Mr. X's henchmen, and taking an elevator to the top floor of a Syndicate builing, the group come across Mr. X seated in his chair. Once again Mr. X sends waves of his henchmen to fight the vigilantes first as he sits and watches. After the last of his henchmen go down Mr. X stands...but something strange happens. His torso catches fire, burning off his suit and skin and revealing he is a robotic replica known as Robo X.

After the robot replica is defeated the gang continue on their way trying to locate the real Mr. X. Eventually they come across Dr. Dahm, defeat him and enter the lab where they come across Mr. X, currently a brain in a jar after his past defeats and planning to upgrade his body to a robotic one. He curses them as Dr. Dahm was key to his plan's success and reveals that the city is going to be destroyed due to the explosives planted by his men.

He summons forth Robot Y (or Neo X in the Japanese version), a robot he controls with his mind to fight the heroes. Upon destroying this remote robot, the heroes send it spinning out of control, shattering the glass vial Mr. X's brain resides within. Vital liquids spilling, Mr. X begs the heroes to save them, but when they question if he's joking, he activates the self destruct sequence stating if he must die, he'll take them all down with him. Fortunately for the group, Adam Hunter returns on a helicopter managing to save them all before the lab leaving what remains of Mr. X to die alone in a fiery explosion.

Other appearances

Project X Zone 2

Mr. X's spirit takes control of Break (the robotic clone of Axel) in Project X Zone 2, revealing that he plans to use M. Bison's Psycho Power to revive the Syndicate. Upon Axel Stone defeating him, Mr. X's soul states the Syndicate will never truly die.

Sega Heroes

In Sega Heroes, Mr. X is a playable green epic hero who was added on the game launch. He has the following gameplay characteristics:

Trivia

Whilst Mr. X doesn't physically appear in Streets of Rage 4 due to dying at the end of the third game, his likeness is spread across Y Tower, with photos of him adorning the walls, and a golden carving with his likeness built into some walls.
Mr. X's brain is also the subject of Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X's Nightmare DLC, in which Dr. Gilbert Zan extracts data from Mr. X's brain to create a virtual reality training simulation for Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, Cherry Hunter and Floyd Iraia to practice in.
