Puyo

Puyos are the titular slime like creatures featured in the Puyo Puyo franchise.

Appearance

Puyos are round orb like creatures with soft, gelatine like bodies that stick together. They have large round eyes, that often display different emotions.

• Green is a neutral expression
• Blue is a sad expression, with a ghost like tail.
• Red is an angry expression
• Yellow has a happy and joyous expression and is shaped like a tear drop.
• Purple/violet wears an apathetic expression and sometimes leans to one side

Types

Green, Blue, Red, Yellow and Purple Puyo are the stock puyos the player plays with. They can be combined to make chains.

Garbage Puyo are gray colored Puyo who will drop down to ruin the players chain. The Garbage Puyo can be destroyed if a chain of colored Puyo touch the Garbage Puyo horizontally or vertically is cleared.

Iron Puyo are invincible and cannot be cleared by any means in Nazo Puyo, although they can be defeated in Pocket Puyo Puyo~n by clearing a large amount of Puyo in a single clear.

Trivia

• The Puyos are replaced by 'Beans' in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
• The Japanese version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed replaces the pufferfish item with a Garbage Puyo, but they fundamentally do the same thing.
• In the Madou Monogatari series, the colour of the Puyo designates it's strength. From weakest to strongest: green, red, blue, yellow, purple.
• Green Puyos in Madou Monogatari Saturn will occasionally heal the party, then run off.
• Puyo appear in Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Zero and Phantasy Star Online 2 as Mags.
• Puyos appeared in Sonic Runners as part of a crossover event.
• Amitie's hat is designed after a Puyo.
• Sega Superstars had a minigame based around Puyo Puyo in which the player would need to guide the Puyos into the correct pots whilst toppling bombs off screen.
• Puyos also appeared in Sega Superstars Tennis, where the player would have to pop them with tennis shots.
• Garbage Puyos appeared in Chain Chronicle as the attacks of Arle Nadja, Amitie, Ringo, Sig, Witch and even Chain Chronicle protagonist Yuri.
• The colored Puyo also appeared as guest enemies in Chain Chronicle.
• 404 GAME RE:SET has a Puyo Puyo themed girl with the Puyos being part of her design.
