Chaz Ashley

Chaz Ashley (Japanese: ルディ・アシュレ, "Rudy Ashley") is the main protagonist of Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, and is also the third and final protector of the Algo system, after Alis Landale of the first millennium, and her descendant Rolf of the second millennium.

Appearance

He has blond hair, a red headband, and a red suit with silver armor plates.

Chaz begins the game at level 1 (0 XP).

Stats

Chaz has roughly average stats across the board. His strength growth, exceeded only by Gryz, Demi, and Wren, combined with high attack power on swords, helps make his basic attacks, cross cut and air slash skills reliable damage dealers. While his TP growth is below average, he still has significantly more ability with techniques than Gryz, Demi, and Wren.

Techniques

Chaz is the only player character with access to light attack techniques, which are effective against many of Zio's minions and demon type enemies. He also has access to all physical and destruct attack techniques, some healing and status recovery techniques, and the teleportation techniques. Due to a glitch in the Japanese version, learning Megid will remove Nazan from Chaz's technique list; this glitch is fixed in other versions.

Skills

Chaz's skills can enhance his normal weapon attack, deal light damage, paralyze an enemy, or instantly defeat an enemy. Earth, Cross Cut, Air Slash, and Ray Blade require Chaz to be wielding a sword or dagger; explode does not.

Combos

• Paradin blow: ray blade and astral in any order; light damage to one enemy
• Fire storm: zan/gizan/nazan and foi/gifoi/nafoi/flaeli in any order; fire damage to all enemies
• Blizzard: zan/gizan/nazan and wat/giwat/nawat in any order; ice damage to all enemies
• Grand cross: cross cut and efess in any order; holy damage to all enemies
• Silent wave: air slash and phononmezer in any order; physical damage to all enemies
• Triblaster: tsu foi and wat in any order; energy damage to all enemies
• Destruct: deban, followed by megid legeon and positron bolt in any order; light damage to all enemies

Equipment

Chaz is the only player character who can equip swords, two handed weapons with high attack power and moderate defense power. He can alternatively equip daggers and shields. He can wear helms, and suits or mail as armor.

Chaz begins the game equipped with a leather helmet, two hunter knives, and leather clothes.
