Serena (Kalos)

Serena is a character that was introduced in Generation VI. She is the playable female protagonist in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, and her counterpart is Calem. However, if Calem is chosen as the playable protagonist, Serena will still appear as an NPC.

Appearance

Serena is a fair-skinned, average height teenage girl with blue eyes, long legs and a narrow, slender frame. Serena has long honey blonde hair with her front streaks of hair being waist-length while the hair at her back is longer in a loosely tied ponytail, if it wasn’t tied in a ponytail it would most likely be hip length. She wears a dark pink hat with a black band and a pair of white sunglasses on top. Her dress is a black sleeveless high waisted outfit. The skirt is red pleated with 7 sections on the front and back with large pockets. Serena wears charcoal black thigh length socks and black high top shoes with pink pokéball-shaped logos on the outer sides. She also keeps a Mega Ring on her left wrist, and carries a pink handbag with black decals on it over her right shoulder.

If chosen as the player character, Serena's appearance can be customized during the game. If not chosen, the NPC version of Serena wears her hair in a ponytail and does not wear a hat.

Personality

While Serena doesn't express any verbal dialogue as the player character, she does display varied emotions (a feature that the first four games of the next generation would almost completely lack). For example, she can be seen expressing shock, joy, and determination, though most of it can only be seen after battles.

As the rival, however, Serena has a much more visible personality, being mostly friendly and nice. However, while she's friendly and readily helps people in need, she's also competitive and prone to getting disappointed when being defeated in battles.

Biography

Serena's biography changes depending on if she is the player character or not. If she is the player character, Serena moves into Vaniville Town at the start of the games, where she quickly makes a load of new friends.

If she is the rival, Serena already lives in the town. She greets the player character along with Shauna and teaches them how to catch Pokémon properly.

Trivia

Prior to the release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, pre-release media referred to Serena as 'Yvonne'.
Serena has a very close resemblance to Green, the female protagonist from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
Rather than having more winter focused clothes (jackets and hoodies) like her male counterpart, Serena has a larger variety of purchasable clothes better fit for warm weather, such as sleeveless and midriff-baring tops.
If the player so chooses in the customization menu at the beginning of the game, Serena can have two alternate appearances: one with even paler skin, light blue eyes and platinum blonde hair, and one with light brown skin, black hair, and medium brown eyes. These changes are solely to her colour scheme and do not affect any other aspects of her appearance, and do not appear on any portrayal of her character outside of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
