Teostra is a male Elder Dragon introduced in Monster Hunter 2.
Physiology
Teostra is a large dragon with leonine features and a fiery red coloration. He has a grand mane, large fangs, and a pair of horns that curve backward. His wings are covered in fur, and its tail ends in a clump of such fur. He is the male counterpart to Lunastra.
Abilities
Although Teostra possesses exceptional physical abilities, its main danger comes from its profound abilities over flame, allowing it to breathe out extremely powerful streams of fire to incinerate foes, ignite its surroundings, and generate such an intense aura of heat that it can burn those who merely approach it. Alongside its flames, Teostra can create large amounts of explosive powder made from its own scales, which it can detonate at will by gnashing its teeth to create sparks. It can spread this powder around by covering itself in it as it moves around, or it can ignite all of its powder simultaneously to produce a devastating "Supernova".
Behavior
Teostra is a very aggressive monster. It will show dominance to anything that it encounters. Unlike Lunastra, who normally gives warnings to get out of its territory, Teostra will ruthlessly attack intruders until they are dead, even chasing them out of its normal territory. Although older specimens of Teostra have been observed being notably calmer, it still will only tolerate the presence of intruders in its territory for so long. Teostra is known to cooperate with Lunastra if she is present in the same map, even sharing an interaction known as "Bonding" with each other.
Habitat
This monster is most often found in hot areas such as the Desert and the Volcano, but has been known to venture into the Swamp, the Town, the Everwood, and the Citadel. Teostra has also made it's home in the fiery reaches of the Elder's Recess.

Risen Teostra

Main Article: Risen Teostra
Risen Teostra is a Teostra that has overcome the Qurio affliction, thus gaining new abilities and becoming even more powerful than before. It is one of the Risen Elder Dragons introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, specifically in the 3rd Title Update, along with Risen Kushala Daora. Hunters can only fight Risen Teostra once they reach Master Rank 140.
Hardcore (HC) Teostra

In Monster Hunter Frontier Season 9.0, Hardcore Teostra was introduced. His flamethrower attack has a much longer range, even when not enraged. He might cover random parts of the area he's in with explosive powder and make them explode with a snap of its teeth at any time. He will also let out a high-grade roar right after the detonations. Explosions are added to his claw attacks. He can also jump erratically all over the place, causing fire bursts with his tail every time he lands. When he roars, enters rage mode, or activates his fire aura, he'll be surrounded by a flaming tornado. He will enter air mode much more often. While airborne, he can provoke explosions with his tail attacks or breath fire. Flash Bombing Teostra will cause explosions around him instantly.
Supremacy Teostra

In Monster Hunter Frontier Forward.5, Supremacy Teostra was introduced.
Notes
General Notes
- Teostra's horns and wings can be broken, and his tail can be severed.
- Using Immunizer doubles the speed of the red healing bar, healing players when Teostra's red aura saps the player's health gradually.
- Teostra can produce a highly flammable powder and use its wings to spread it across the air. It then gnashes its teeth to create a spark, which then causes the powder around it to ignite and explode. The spark emitted has two colors, indicating the distance of the explosion. Red sparks indicate a close ring of explosions, while yellow sparks indicate a long range explosion.
- Alternatively, the speed of the wing beat also indicates the range of the explosion : a fast wing beat will lead to a close range explosion around the body of Teostra, whereas a slow wing beat will lead to the long range explosion.
- Teostra and Lunastra can drop a shiny when roaring.
- Teostra's roar requires Earplugs to block.
- Teostra was voted 59th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[1]
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
- Teostra is unable to produce this aura if one of his horns are broken. However, the following conditions must be met before its horns can be broken: the horns must take at least 1 point of damage from Dragon Element, they must take a certain amount of ordinary damage, and Teostra's current HP must be below 60% of its maximum HP.
- The Aura can also be temporarily disabled by attacking his face for a short time and flinching his head, poisoning, paralyzing, or knocking out.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
- In Guild Quests with a level of 126 or higher, the flame aura envelopes his whole body.
- While the flame aura is active, Teostra's flamethrower attack has a larger range and a longer duration.
- When activating the flame aura, or while the flame aura is active, after performing a roar Teostra will create dragon wind.
- The flame aura can be canceled by flinching or poisoning Teostra.
- Teostra's rage can be canceled by mounting and toppling him, dealing enough damage to his head, cutting his tail, stunning him or putting him to sleep.
- Teostra uses Blast attacks only when enraged and it can release explosive powder with claw swipes and tail whips.
- 100 seconds after becoming enraged, Teostra flies up and unleashes a massive explosion from his body, dealing heavy Fire damage and inflicting Stun to nearby hunters, while ending his rage. This attack can be prevented by canceling his rage mode early.
- It can release the explosive powder with the back hop.
- It can detonate the explosive powder after it performs claw swipes or a back hop.
- It can do a ranged massive explosion at the hunter.
Monster Hunter: World
- Fire Mode coats Teostra in fiery aura. It tremendously enhances Teostra’s fire elemental attacks and adds fire element to some of his basic moves. In this mode, Teostra passively inflicts constant fire damage around his body.
- Blast Mode covers Teostra in clusters of his scales. This mode grants Teostra advanced techniques on his explosive scale ability and modifies his breath attack. Teostra also leaves stray cluster of explosive dust as he moves around in this mode.
- When both are enraged and are in the same area, they can do a unique "Bond" interaction in which both dragons do their supernovas simultaneously.
- Peculiarly, sometimes when the two are using a bonding attack, both dragons can "swap places", with Teostra initiating Lunastra's Hellflare and Lunastra initiating Teostra's Supernova instead.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
- Tempered versions of Master Rank Teostra can use these supercharged dusts outside of Blast Mode while having them used more evenly or even dominantly in proportion to normal scale dust while the mode is active.
Monster Hunter Rise
- It can do a combo of two claw swipes before performing a spin attack. This leaves itself open to attacks for a moment at the end.
- It has a combo where it blasts the explosion breath at point blank range, and finishes with a leaping attack. This also leaves itself open to attacks for a moment at the end.
- It has a new charge attack where it takes several steps back. It will always do this charge twice in succession.
