Chapter 139

Chapter 139 is the one hundred thirty ninth chapter of Weak Hero. It is the 12th chapter of the third season.

It is the fourth part of Gerard Jin's Backstory.

Synopsis

Gerard recalls Jinu begging him to not get into another fight and to focus on preparing for the concert. He tries to avoid fighting, but Sanguk kicks Gerard’s guitar and tells him he’ll leave him alone if he sings a song for them. He grabs Gerard’s shoulder and starts punching him; he doesn’t allow Gerard to move away and grips his blazer tightly.

Gerard swats Sanguk’s arm away and karate chops him in the face with the hand that has a broken finger. Sanguk pretends that his nose is broken and tries to tackle Gerard, but Gerard sees through his act and knees him in the face. He finishes him off with a kick that sends him crashing into some desks.

Gerard reminds him that when he was looking for his next opponent, Sanguk hid away. Sanguk only came running for a fight now that Gerard has a broken finger. He calls him pathetic and Gerard orders Jeongmu around like a bread shuttle. Jeongmu, who puts his petty pride before everything else, never returns to school after that day. At the time, Gerard didn’t know a single person’s twisted obsession could seriously change the course of another person’s life.

Slam is going to start with a weekday concert at their Hongdae branch since they’re not well-known enough yet for a Friday or Saturday. Sangman and Jinu are excited to play at Green Field. Sangman notices that the pay isn’t as great as he thought it’d be, but Jinu says that at least the month’s expenses are covered and that it’ll get better later. Sangman asks where Hyeonjin is and Jinu tells him that he’s at the studio. Sangman wonders why he can’t just be happy now that they’ve signed the contract. Hyeonjin plays his bass alone in the practice room.

Later on, Slam enters Green Field and a member of another band notices how tall they are. The guy’s bandmate informs him that they’re Slam, the new band who plays Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The band’s name Slam is a reference to tall basketball players due to Gerard and Hyeonjin's height.

Some members of the audience think that Green Field is going downhill for signing a no-name band like Slam. They mock Slam for performing original songs instead of doing a cover and think they won’t last long.

Three weeks later, a large crowd gathers for Slam’s performance.
