F-16C PEACE BRIDGE | KF-16C | KF-16C Block 52D |
The KF-16C Block 52D is a variant of the F-16 available to South Korea in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History
The F-16A Fighting Falcon was developed by General Dynamics as part of the United States Air Force Lightweight Fighter (LWF) program. The aircraft, first flown on 20 January 1974, was exported to several NATO members starting in the mid-to-late 1970's. Originally envisioned as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather Multi-Role aircraft. Over 4,500 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976.
Under OPERATION PEACE BRIDGE II, South Korea acquired 120 F-16C and D Block 52 aircraft, of which 12 were imported from the United States, 36 pre-fabricated, and another 72 license built in-country. First flown by South Korea in December 1994, the Block 52 features compatibility with the HARM anti-radar missile, AIM-120 AMRAAM, and myriad air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, guided and unguided bombs, and has a variety of radar, avionics, and system updates compared to older models of the F-16.
Overview
The KF-16C Block 52D is a prototype South Korean SEAD aircraft which can well defend itself against aerial attackers. Armed with two AGM-88 HARM missiles, four AIM-120A AMRAAMs, and a 20mm Vulcan cannon, the Block 52D is a particularly deadly SEAD platform. It can not only attack enemy SAM sites with its HARM, but can finish off any survivor of a HARM attack with its Vulcan cannon. Its ability to defend itself against enemy air assets is very good thanks to its AMRAAM compliment, and the type can be used as an expedient interceptor or air superiority fighter if needed. Survivability is enhanced by exceptional ECM, medium-rated Stealth, and a particularly tight turning radius.
The key drawback of the KF-16C Block 52D is its cost. At 160 points per aircraft, it is well worth sending several less expensive assets after to swarm and splash. The type also has relatively poor Time Over Target, meaning it cannot loiter for long while SAM hunting.
