The F-86F is a ground attack aircraft available to South Korea in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History
The North American F-86 Sabre is a single-seat, single-engine subsonic fighter first flown in 1947, and introduced into United States Air Force arsenals in 1949. The type could perform air to air combat, or light strike duties, and saw extensive use during the Korean Civil War of 1950-1953. The type was heavily exported the world over, and over 9800 Sabres were built in total. The F-86F featured a larger wing; early variants did not use slats, while the F-86F-40 and subsequent saw their addition, slightly reducing top speed, but improving maneuverability. The F-86F also saw the introduction of a more powerful engine than prior models. South Korea purchased 122 of the type, and began operating the F-86 in mid-1955 with first five F-86F entering service in June 20, 1955. These were used by 10th Wing and were replaced by F-5A.
Overview
The F-86F is a light strike platform available to South Korean and BLUFOR decks. At 65 points per aircraft, the F-86F is a cost-effective option for attacking light vehicles and infantry, however, the type carries no ECM, no AAMs, and must rely on its Browning .50cal machine guns for defense against aerial threats. It is neither as powerful or as accurate as later autocannons or Gatling-type guns. Nevertheless, the F-86F provides the South Korean Air Force with an inexpensive option for light strike duties, and can be used to good effect with proper timing and tactics.
