Krook is a Kremling species found Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. These enemies wear reddish-brown, button down trench coats with yellow neck holes and cuffs. They also have large hooks for hands. These Kremlings attack by throwing the hooks at Diddy and Dixie Kong, trying to injure them and their Animal Buddies. They resemble normal Kritters, except they are more scalier, have bigger feet, a longer tail, sharper and longer teeth and nails, a long Gharial/Gavial-like snout and rounder eyes without the cats-eye slits normal Kritters have. They can be defeated with a simple bounce on the head or with projectiles, even with Squitter's webs.

Krook's name is a pun on "crook", as pirates are thieves and criminals, as well as a portmanteau of "Kremling" and "Kritter" and "hook" (The latter is obvious). It also stems from "by hook and/or crook", which is an expression that means "by any means necessary."

Krook apparently became famous thanks to his titular theme, "Krook's March". Links here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imEGUx8OO98

Trivia

  • According to the game's credits, Krooks belong to the "Kremling Kuthroats" enemy class.
  • A Krook only uses one hand for throwing hooks. The other one is never used.
  • In GBA version, when throwing hooks, krooks reuse Chunky Kong’s voice clips from Donkey Kong 64.
  • Krooks are first seen in Squawk's Shaft. Except the first three Krooks from this level, none of them will actually walk, only standing, ready to throw hooks. Some Krooks will turn around if they spot the Kongs.
  • Due to similar clothing and general shape, it is likely that when the Krooks die, they become Kloaks.
