Tom Jerry is a small freight engine based at Kahlville Junction.

Personality

Tom Jerry (better known as T.J.) is a heavy goods locomotive, typically working the Crotoonian National mainline. Originally owned by the Onion Pacific Railroad., T.J. is often entrusted with handling heavy goods around the railway, like iron beams, bricks, lumber, slate, and many other things! He's a hard working loco, and though he's not as big as other engines like Gordon or Montana, he's a very strong little tender engine, who you might say is "strong to the finish"! He's a very rational engine, despite his love for a friendly competition, and will take in the priority of the work when it needs to be done.

Basis

T.J. Is loosely based on the Hackensack and New York Railroad 4-2-0 locomotive "Hackensack" with an additional tender.

Livery

T.J. is painted dark blue with red lining and wheels and has his name, number, and company painted on him in yellow.

• T.J.’s name stands for Tom Jerry, a reference (and possibly homage) to the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon series Tom & Jerry.
• T.J. originated from the 1940 Popeye cartoon Onion Pacific, with some differences.
  • The obvious lack of his face and name.
  • The lack of a dome and headlamp.
  • His bell being of a different shape and size.
  • In the colorized version of the short, T.J. was painted periwinkle with red lining, a red smokebox, a magenta bell, gray wheels, and a dark teal cab and tender.
• T.J.'s side rods can sometimes be seen clipping through his cylinders.
• Starting in Safety First, T.J. received a redesigned face, now having dotted eyes and eyebrows.
• T.J. is one of sixteen characters currently of the fleet to be given a name specific to Crotoonia.

^[1]A mighty steamer who beat Melissa in a big race many years ago, T. (Tom) Jerry nowadays works the Seaside Branch with the other engines, as he's smaller and lighter than Melissa. With his finer firebox, mighty strength and "strong-to-the-finish" work attitude, T. Jerry works hard shifting heavy goods along the line, mainly from the Bartlett Bay Salt Mines. He sometimes fills in for passenger duties however, and will occasionally work along Azul and the Greendale Rocket's Branch Lines. T. Jerry won't let the other engines down, and will always work as hard as he can to get the work finished anyway he can.

^[2]The angel on Melissa’s lamp iron, “strong-to-the-finish” T.J. also loves to race (after all, they raced against each other way back when!), but is much more responsible and calculated when it comes to it. He firmly keeps to working smarter and planning out the best way to get a job done, rather than race into it like Melissa. He does have a bit of a jokey streak, surprisingly!
