- This article is about the Classic Dimension character. For the spin-off video game, see Angry Birds Stella. For other uses, see Stella (disambiguation).
- "These feathers are made for shining and that's just what they'll do. Don't try to steal my limelight but I'm happy to share the stage with you. If you enjoy popping pigs that is."
- — Stella, Angry Birds Stella website[13]
Stella, originally known as the Pink Bird,[1] is a character that appears in the Angry Birds series. She is a pink bird who has lived on both Piggy Island and Golden Island. On Piggy Island, she is a member of the Angry Birds who occasionally participates in their fights against the Piggy kingdom. On Golden Island, she leads her own flock and lives with her friends in a treehouse off the shores of the island, countering the plots of Gale, who was once a close friend before succumbing to greed.
The character made her debut in the Back to School chapter of Angry Birds Seasons, released in August 2012. Stella's main power in most games revolves around blowing bubbles to destroy pig fortresses. She also starred in her own spin-off series, Angry Birds Stella, which ran from 2014 to 2015. Known for her girly looks and fierce demeanor, Stella thrives on freedom and excitement and is unafraid to make a scene to assert her autonomy.
Concept and creation
Prior to Stella's debut, the only major female character in the franchise was Matilda. A Girl Bird resembling Red had been featured in the Hogs and Kisses chapter of Angry Birds Seasons, but she was made purely for commercial purposes. After fan feedback, Rovio staff agreed to make a new, explicitely feminine character that would fit the Angry Birds universe.[4]
While creating Stella, Rovio sought to give her the image of a tough, independent girl. Designers took inspiration from various sources, including Japanese cosplay, the Powerpuff Girls TV series, and American singer Gwen Stefani. One of the design challenges while making the character was to not make her too feminine, as Rovio wanted her to be defined by her attitude. Additionally, designers ensured she appealed to all audiences.[4]
Appearance
Stella is a round, limbless bird covered in pink feathers. She has a tuft of three pink feathers with round, light pink ends on her head, and her tail consists of three black feathers, also with round ends. Unlike other birds, she has large, light blue eyes with eyelashes, as well as a small yet wide beak and a light pink belly.
Personality

- "I know I sound completely stubborn, but I just can't help it. OK? I don't like people telling me what I can and can't do."
- — Stella, The World of Angry Birds Official Guide[5]
Known for her dramatic flair,[5] Stella's demeanor can be succinctly described as "sweet on the outside and fierce on the inside"; while she may appear cute and cuddly, she harbors a fiery temper that surfaces when pushed too far.[6] Valuing her freedom and independence, she enjoys exploring the world on her own terms.[5][6] She is not afraid to assert her autonomy, even if it means quarreling with others.[5] Recognizing that she may sound stubborn, she simply dislikes being told what to do, and is easily provoked when someone tries to control her or underestimates her abilities.[5][6] Stella values her friends as much as her own freedom and has little tolerance for bullies, willing to dive in to defend her friends and to resort to violence to protect innocents.[5]
As a pastime, Stella enjoys blowing bubbles, and takes a playful delight in popping those in King Pig's likeness.[5] She is a fearless adventurer who gets easily bored and craves for action and fun, always seeking out tough challenges. However, her ambition often leads to her taking on more than she can handle.[6] Stella is fueled by an unwavering spirit, unwilling to give up on her quests even if that means enduring severe injuries along the way.[8] However, she may abandon hobbies that put her in a near-death experience, even suffering from flashbacks of those experiences that hinder her ability to help others. She is nevertheless capable of confronting her fears for the sake of protecting her friends.[16]
Game appearances
Angry Birds Seasons

In Angry Birds Seasons, Stella makes her debut in Back to School, being the second bird to first appear in this game after Bubbles, and appears in all subsequent episodes. Her debut was also marked with a short, titled "Meet the Pink Bird", where her ability is showcased.
In gameplay, Stella can only be used in the levels where she appears, once it is her turn to be launched from the slingshot. Around a second after colliding with an obstacle, Stella will envelop herself and nearby objects into large bubbles that will rise up. After a few seconds, these bubbles pop, dropping the debris inside them to the ground as she disappears. She can also use this ability prematurely if the player taps the screen at any point after she is launched. It is also worth noting that the objects caught in these bubbles maintain their momentum, meaning they can be sent far away with this ability. Stella is extremely weak, struggling against all materials, and her ability has little effect in sturdy buildings. For this reason, she is often used against unstable structures or to lead boulders to weak spots in the levels. Once the level is beaten, each unused Stella grants the player a bonus of 10,000 points.
Angry Birds
After Stella's first introduction in Angry Birds Seasons, she was quickly added into the original Angry Birds game in the Birdday Party theme; being introduced in level 19-1. From then on, and throughout the games that followed, she was a playable character.
On her own, Stella will not be able to do much damage. She will only be able to shatter a single glass block, do slight damage to wood, and will merely bounce off stone blocks (making her physically the weakest bird in Red's entire flock). Stella is most useful when she is surrounded by bricks that are not covered, so the best way to take advantage of her ability is to shoot her in between structures, and then release her ability the minute she falls in between the blocks.
Angry Birds Go!
Stella appears in Angry Birds Go! as the second character introduced in the Seedway episode and is also the first character to be unlocked. She also appears in the cinematic trailer for Angry Birds Go! along with getting her own character video.
Strangely, she and Matilda never appeared in Jenga playsets as promotion for Angry Birds Go!, and were also the only female characters of the game. It is also strange considering that they had Telepods, which used similar/identical molding to the Jenga playsets.
Stella's default car is the Soda Pop Sedan, and in promotional art and on her Telepod she wears sunglasses and a bandana.
Stella's ability is bubble based, like in most of her slingshot-based games.
When there were boss battles in the game, you would have to beat Stella 3 times in a race in order to unlock her. (which was fairly easy, as she was the first character that players needed to unlock) In these boss battles, she would blow bubbles in order to divert the player. Once the battles were replaced, however, Stella would be unlockable once the player beat the Campaign Level 2 Race 5.
When you play as Stella, her ability is to incase herself in a large bubble, protecting herself from attacks by other birds, TNT laid on the track and other debris while catching fruit or coins. The bubble wasn't extremely powerful, and Stella's ability wasn't as useful as the other characters'. The bubble doesn't last for a very long period of time but is still effective when used.
Angry Birds Rio

While Stella didn't appear in the Rio chapter of the game, she was prominently featured in the Rio 2 chapter of levels, starting with Rocket Rumble chapter. Stella not only shared the exact same powers as in other games, but she introduces the Toons design of the character in a game.
During boss fights (a feature which had been introduced in Rio, whereas before there were only boss levels), Stella's ability does little to the actual boss. Even if her ability is used and manages to trap the boss in a bubble, it will do absolutely nothing, nor affect the enemy in any way. Instead, she should be used as an extra bird, perhaps to trigger TNT or lift harmful debris if the boss is nearby.
Angry Birds Stella

Stella was the main character of her own series, as she was 1st introduced bird in Angry Birds Stella. The game was introduced in early 2014, where Rovio began teasing newer birds until they revealed that Stella would receive her own game along with her friends. The game begins when Gale orders the pigs to break into Stella's house to steal her scrapbook, which causes Stella and her friends to fight through each level of pigs to chase after Gale.
Stella has a very close bond with her best friends, Poppy, Luca, Willow, and Dahlia, and they all live together on a big tree by the shore. Their former friend turned enemy, Gale, chose power over the flock, causing a separation to happen. Unfortunately, the game was discontinued by Rovio as of July 13, 2015. Stella wasn't affected by this, as she was a main character in other Angry Birds installments and still is.
Stella has a different ability than the original games. Rather than blowing bubbles around her surroundings, she has a parkour ability (named "pink flash") where she can bounce off of one object and crash into another. This is much more effective than her previous ability and allows Stella to be a much stronger character.
The first object she flies to will be pushed with some force, so the player will be able to knock over moderate structures with great damage, perhaps toppling over stone ones with the right angle.
The second target after she bounces off the first one will have a much more powerful effect; once she hits the structure she will have a mini-explosion, and she herself can destroy bricks and pigs effectively, as she is launched at a very high speed.
If you use Stella without her ability, she won't be as strong, but can still break a few bricks and can pop pigs with ease. (however, it is notable that in this game, pigs are much tougher than in the originals)
Angry Birds POP!
Stella appeared as the main character of the game when it was first released, being titled Angry Birds Stella POP! before. However, the Stella characters were slowly taken out of the game and were replaced with the original Angry Birds flock members. Stella was not replaced, but had the "Drop the Pigs" and "Defeat Gale" portion given to Red. She is now only playable in the "Pop the Top" portion. Red also replaced Stella as the main character of the game.
Previously, Stella had 3 level types that the player could play with as her but is only available for the "Pop the Top" levels now. In these levels, the player must pop the bubbles all the way to the top, where they must pop 6 of the very top row bubbles, freeing the fireflies, in order to beat the level. It can be noted that the player must make groups of at least 3 of the same color bubbles to pop them, so the top row is often frustrating as bubble supply is often limited and colors that have no use are given.
Her boost ability is called "Power Pop", and it pops the surrounding bubbles in whichever area it hits. The color of the bubble does not matter, so the player can choose to fling the bubble wherever they choose. (however, shooting it on the very bottom row will not do much damage)
Angry Birds Fight!
In Angry Birds Fight!, Stella was the last out of six playable characters the player could choose to use. Other than being a playable character, she also appeared as an icon in the matching board. Like all of the other birds in the game, Stella was customizable to the player's preference, and the player would be able to purchase costumes and weapons for Stella with in-game currency. Stella mistakenly used Bubbles' voice instead of her own.
In gameplay, the player could not play directly as Stella; rather, they had to make her attack her enemy by till-matching various small birds. Matching three birds would have popped them out, and matching four or more would activate the specific bird's special ability. If four of Stella's icons were matched, then random panels would be blocked out with wooden boxes on the opponent player's matching board.
Once the round was over, the two battling players began fighting, and the player's success would entirely be based on how many points they were able to gather.
Angry Birds Ace Fighter
Stella appears in Angry Birds Ace Fighter as a non-playable character. Stella is the bird that showcases various tutorial boxes and mail inbox for the player.
Angry Birds Blast!
Stella appears in Angry Birds Blast! as a non-playable character. Stella only made cameos in places such as the in-game map.
Angry Birds 2

When Angry Birds 2 first launched, it was stated by Rovio that Stella chose to "sit out" of the game, along with Hal and Bubbles. She could be used as a player icon in the tournament in her Stella animation form, but other than that she made no other appearances in the game.
She was, however, added in the game on October 17, 2018, and became available to use on October 19.
Gameplay
Stella is an Extra Bird in Angry Birds 2; she is usually sleeping but can be woken up to be usable for four hours and occupy an extra eighth spot in Red's flock. Once the four hours are up, Stella goes back to sleep, and the player must wait twelve hours before they can wake her up again. You can also do this with Hal, Bubbles, and Leonard, but you can only use one at a time.
As with older games, Stella once again has the ability to wrap things in bubbles and lift them away. This time around, though, the ability is actually pretty reliable, making her useful even though she's still physically the weakest bird in the flock. When using the ability, Stella encases herself in a bubble; in this state, anything she touches also gets encased in a bubble and is carried off for a short while before the bubbles pop, after which the items inside take heavy damage from falling. Since there's no limit as to how many items can be affected by the ability, Stella is particularly useful for clearing away structures with a lot of materials densely packed together. With this ability, Stella can even be used to one-shot some bosses; if used at the right time, Stella's ability can send a boss pig falling straight into a bottomless pit or floating up and away, killing him instantly (provided there is a bottomless pit in the room or a gap in the ceiling where the boss can float out of).
Angry Birds Friends

In Angry Birds Friends, Stella formerly appeared as only a bird that can be chosen as an avatar in the Bird-O-Matic, but Stella later returns playable. She appears playable first in Pink Friday Tournament level 1 on November 22, 2018. She appears in the game again, though infrequently, and can be found in both Facebook and mobile versions.
When her playable version was first introduced, she sported the Toons Design, even in the Facebook version. Her bubbles also had a different design and moved rather than staying still. In the PC version, when looking through the tutorials, there are extra sprites that are not used in-game, such as a more detailed launch sprite.
Gameplay
While there are no changes to Stella's size, ability, and basic principles, her ability is slightly more powerful, destroying other blocks. Using Power-Ups or Special Slingshots will increase her strength and ability.
Angry Birds Reloaded

Stella appears in Angry Birds Reloaded as a playable character. She uses her Toons design like everyone else (except for the Mighty Eagle and Silver). There are no changes to Stella's size, ability, and basic principles meaning it's the same as in previous games. In December 2023, she did get a space design, but only as a costume for the game

A supposed pink bird appears within the files of the avatar creator. Not much is known about it, but some speculate that the Pink Bird is Stella.
Animated Appearances
Angry Birds on The Run
She and Matilda debut in this series in season 2 as main characters.
Book Appearances
Angry Birds: Stella and the Hunt for the Jade Egg
The story follows Stella in her quest to retrieve Matilda's Jade Egg pendant. It all begins when, after Matilda cries out about losing the pendant, Red tells Stella and the other children of the flock to stay put while he searched for the Egg. Stella is offended by Red's dismissive attitude towards her, and ventures into Pig City alongside Bubbles, where she had heard the Jade Egg was being kept.
The two are able to retrieve the Jade Egg, and escape the pigs with the help of The Blues. After returning the Jade Egg to Matilda, Red is still unwilling to let Stella guard The Eggs by herself, but Matilda feigning weakness is able to convince Red to let them help her on guard duty. Stella swears that she'll be able to guard The Eggs someday.
Angry Birds: Bomb's Best Birthday
Despite being one of two birds on the cover, Stella only has one appearance in the book. She appears in a flashback to one of Bomb's previous birthday parties, running from his excitement-induced explosion.
Angry Birds: Stella and the Egg Tree
When Stella falls asleep while guarding The Eggs, a Corporal Pig swoops in and swipes The Eggs. When The Flock find out about the theft, Stella makes a vow to retrieve The Eggs all by herself. She disguises herself as an elderly Pig, and intercepts the Corporal on the way back to Pig City. She spins a bogus tale about a rare Egg Tree, giving Corporal Pig information about it in exchange for Eggs. She eventually gives him a branch that she claims will grow into the Egg Tree. She happily takes the three eggs back to the nest, leaving the Corporal to be chewed out by King Pig.
Angry Birds: Red And The Great Fling-Off
Stella makes a cameo as part of the attendees for the Great Fling-Off late into the book.
A Pig From The Stars And Other Stories 2
Bubbling Over
When The Flock are huddled under a palm tree during a storm, Stella tries to move inward to avoid being struck by lightning, knocking the candy out of Bubbles' grasps. He becomes enraged and puffs up before having his candy returned, but is unable to deflate. The Flock try several things to fix Bubbles, with Stella's attempt involving blowing candy-shaped bubbles, which only results in making Bubbles sad when they pop.
A Pig From The Stars And Other Stories 4
Chuck And Stella's Rescue Mission
During a trip to the Red Giant Valley, Stella notices a group of pigs preparing to chop down a large tree. She and Chuck decide to save the tree, and stealthily toss the pigs' tools into the fire while they're asleep. The pigs begin to leave, but Stella and Chuck are forced to retreat when Chuck angers a bee hive. Foreman Pig attempts to grab her on their escape, but is stung by bees. Stella escapes unharmed, but Chuck is stung multiple times.
Pink!
While on a walk, Stella drops one of her feathers before being called back to camp by Red. When she returns to Pig City to reclaim her feather, she's surprised to find that she has an admirer in the form of Hamadeus. When he offers her the feather she dropped, he decides to let him keep the feather, and leaves.
Angry Birds: The Attack of The Monster
Despite not actually appearing in the story, Stella still gets a character biography in the book.
Stella: Nana and the Magic English Words
Stella tells Nana to collect mysterious English word cards to save the school, while at the same time asks for her help to stop Gale and her minions from taking over Golden Island.
Angry Birds: Captain Badburger
Stella serves as one of the book's protagonists. When she and Chuck discover an old rowboat on the shore, they get inside. The boat begins to row itself, and the birds soon find themselves transported to the Saucy Pickle, a ship ran by Captain Badburger. The captain forcefully recruits Stella and Chuck, and the two find themselves being forced to do his dirty work.
During their stay, they manage to befriend many other creatures aboard the ship, including Justin the sea serpent, Brian the octopus, and even Badburger's own parrot. These alliances end up saving Stella and Chuck when Badburger conspires with the shifty Captain Bigbeard to steal The Birds' Eggs. Stella and Chuck, with the help of the friends they made, are able to out Bigbeard as a Piggy Kingdome spy, save the eggs, and return home to their flock.
Angry Birds: The Tale of a Featherless Friend
In a similar fashion to her appearance in Hunt for the Jade Egg, this story is about Stella proving herself capable to the rest of The Flock. When Stella is by herself, she wishes that she had a friend to play hide and seek with. Luckily for her, a new friend lands right in the middle of the woods in the form of a freshly-catapulted Minion Pig. The Pig catches amnesia from the fall and gets covered in swamp water, making it difficult to discern his species. When Stella first tries to investigate the fallen object, she's initially stopped by Red, and forced to wait until he falls asleep to look for it. When she finds the swampy Minion, she immediately befriends it and brings it home. As soon as the other birds discover Stella's new friend, they are immediately suspicious, and begin to spy on the pair.
Eventually, Stella decides to show off her bubble wand to her new friend. Unfortunately, the bubbles she blows are egg-shaped, and reawaken the amnesiac Pig's egg-swiping instincts. Red and Bomb stuff the Pig into a burlap sack, and lock him in a cage for experimentation purposes. Stella decides to bring the Pig back to Pig City herself, and breaks the Pig out. She manages to outrun The Flock as well as tricking an oncoming Pig patrol. She returns the Minion to the gates of the city, where the two exchange a heartfelt goodbye. Stella fully expects to be put on blast for her insubordination, but is surprised to find Red is proud of her for her clever thinking and quick wits.
Relationships
Luca
Stella appears to be a mother figure to Luca. She forces him to take baths and keeps him away from Gale, as Stella thinks she is dangerous. Luca also cares about Stella, as when she gains a phobia of flying, Luca tricks her into using her hangglider to save him. Stella forgets her phobia and jumps off the tree with her hangglider to save Luca, showing that she would do anything for his safety.
Poppy
Poppy is one of Stella's best friends. While they fight often they clearly care for each other. Stella loves to jam with Poppy and her other friends, but she gets annoyed when Poppy gets a little too carried away while playing the drums. Poppy and Stella are seen laughing with each other in promo pictures for the game, showing their enjoyment of each other's company.
Willow
Stella and Willow are good friends and when Stella is scared of flying Willow is the first to come up with a plan to help her feel better. Willow enjoys Stella's company and lets her paint alongside her in "Own The Sky."
Dahlia
Stella and Dahlia are good friends, but Dahlia often scolds Stella for her actions. Dahlia expects no nonsense out of Stella and is annoyed when she interrupts her during Dahlia's experiments. Nonetheless, Dahlia looks to Stella as a daughter figure and partakes in helping her overcome her fear of flight.
Gale
Stella used to be best friends with Gale. In the Angry Birds Stella gameplay trailer, a photograph is seen with both Stella and Gale. Unfortunately, the two went separate ways when Gale discovered a crown that put her in command of the pigs. She jumps into an active volcano in order to save Gale from death; and is heartbroken with the loss of her.
When Gale is found alive Stella immediately welcomes her back, forgiving her for leaving the group for the fame from the pigs. She looks after and cares for Gale until she gets better. They then play the song from Rock On! and Gale sings along, showing that they have history of jamming together. Stella is disappointed when Gale instantly goes back to her old ways. In You Asked for It, Stella and Gale reconciled their friendship when she turned her into gold with the golden egg.
Minion Pigs
Stella, at first, dislikes the minion pigs due to them destroying the vegetation in Golden Island for Gale, and later in Piggy Island for King Pig. She beats many of them in defense.
Although Stella has had rocky history with the pigs, because of her caring nature she lets some pigs sleep in her house. The pigs take advantage and she gets annoyed, but still stands up for them even when the rest of her friends protest. In The World of Angry Birds Official Guide, she does not seem to know why The Flock is worried about the pigs, calling the latter as "stupid" and "not a threat at all".
Red
Due to Stella being a teenager she doesn't like being told what to do, and since Red is the leader, since it's his job to act as a leader. Although, they can get along sometimes in Angry Birds POP!, they seem to be having fun with each other.
The Blues
According to the book Stella's Friend Book, Stella likes The Blues' jokes, but sometimes she think they can go too far with their pranks.
Chuck
Chuck and Stella are the main characters of the book Angry Birds: Captain Badburger. In the story, the two try to survive after being kidnapped by the titular zombie pirate Captain Badburger.
Bubbles
Similar to her relationship with Luca, Stella loves spending time with Bubbles. In the book Stella and the Hunt for the Jade Egg, Stella invites Bubbles to join her as a "traveling companion" on the quest to find Matilda's jade egg. In The World of Angry Birds Official Guide Stella, under Red's command, takes on the task of interpreting Bubbles' chirps to make them understandable to the audience.

Trivia
- In the Meet the Pink Bird trailer, Stella is shown to use a bubble wand to produce the bubbles, however, this wand is nowhere in the game itself.
- Stella is the first bird to be confirmed female at her release. Although Matilda is female, she was never actually confirmed to be when the game was released.
- Her prototype plush shows a rather different sprite (see Stella's gallery).
- Stella is the first and only bird in Red's flock to sport an actual eye color other than black (light blue).
- Stella, along with Matilda, Silver, and Hal, are the only four birds that don't have a Space counterpart.
- The name "Stella" means "star" in Latin. The translation was stated in the Angry Birds Stella Super Interactive Annual 2015 as the Italian for "star".
- She is one of the only bird to have a consistent leitmotif. It can be heard though the beginning of the episode "The Storm", "A Fork in the Friendship", and Pop The Top in Angry Birds POP!.
- Since the newer updates of Angry Birds Friends, when Stella was launched from the slingshot, she sometimes uses Hal's launch voice (primarily used in Angry Birds Seasons, newer updates of the original Angry Birds, and Angry Birds Rio).
