Schumacher was a novelty duo from Season 19 of America's Got Talent. They were eliminated in the Quarterfinals.
Background
Schumacher are a novelty duo from Japan consisting of Ryu Taro and Yuya Gomi. The duo had never been to America before competing on the show. The duo have been performing their act exclusively in Japan since 2014, with their performance being the first time their act would be witnessed by an audience abroad. The duo met in school in Japan. Yuya works as a car engineer and Ryu is still a student.
Audition
Schumacher's performance in Episode 1907 consisted of using costume changes to become various animals with their performance set solely to the instrumental portions of Aaron Levy, Raphael Lake, and Wesley Eugene Smith, Jr.’s “Party Sex Drink Repeat”. Impressed with their performance, Sofia Vergara hit the Golden Buzzer, sending them directly to the live shows.
Quarterfinals
Schumacher's Quarterfinal performance in Episode 1911 consisted of using costume changes to become various animals with their performance once again being set solely to the instrumental portions of Aaron Levy, Raphael Lake, and Wesley Eugene Smith, Jr.’s “Party Sex Drink Repeat”. Simon Cowell buzzed the act. They did not receive enough votes to enter the top 5 of the night in Episode 1912, eliminating them from the competition instead of Alex Sampson.
After the Show
Additionally in 2024, the duo auditioned for the 10th season of Spain's Got Talent. Their audition consisted of performing as the same animals as their AGT audition, though with a Bull and a Cow being added to the roster in place of the Unicorn. Their performance was buzzed by Risto Mejide and Tamara Falcó. Though Florentino Fernández attempted to convince the panel to hit the Platinum Buzzer to send them through to the Finals, it didn't work as the duo were eliminated with 2 ‘Yes’ votes from Florentino & Paula Echevarría and 2 ‘No’ voted from Risto & Tamara.
In 2025, Schumacher competed on the 17th season of Das Supertalent.
Trivia
- In the show's history, Schumacher is the first Golden Buzzer act to be buzzed in the live shows, unless we are including Boogie Storm from the AGT Spinoff, Champions 2.
- Schumacher and Jonathan Burns were the only acts to be buzzed in the Season 19 Quarterfinals.
