Mervin Mayo

Mervin Mayo was a singer and pianist from Season 19 of America's Got Talent. He was eliminated in the Deliberations.

Background

Mervin Mayo is from Richmond, Virginia where he grew up in an housing project. Mervin joined The Police Athletic League program where an officer named Curtis Simmonds took a mischievous young Mervin under his wing and protected him. As a child, Mervin frequently sang at his local church as he saw singing as more than a hobby for him but instead as an outlet for how he felt. Mervin sees playing the piano as a coping mechanism for himself because as soon as he is going through something, he begins to play as soon as he possibly can.

Mervin has worked as a police officer and school resource officer with the at risk youth since 2005 as he had always wanted to support the at risk youth as he himself was formerly an at risk youth. In addition to this Mervin also works as a minister. He had considered competing on the show before but he shied away believing he wasn’t good enough of a singer as the only competition that he actively partakes in are karaoke based competitions.

In 2009, he released his debut album entitled Don’t Ever Let Me Fall.

In 2020, Mervin went viral in with his cover of the Marvin Sapp song “The Best in Me,” which he followed with the release of his second album entitled Bow Down.

Earlier in 2024, he released his third album entitled God Did It.

Audition

Mervin Mayo's performance in Episode 1907 consisted of singing Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" whilst playing the piano. All 4 judges voted "Yes", sending him to the next round.

Deliberations

Mervin was not selected to advance to the Quarterfinals, eliminating him from the competition.
