The MiG-25BM is a Soviet SEAD aircraft available to PACT forces.

History

The MiG-25BM is a twin-engine, single-seat, supersonic SEAD aircraft based upon the MiG-25 interceptor, produced by Mikoyan-Gurevich for the Soviet Air Defense Forces (PVO). The MiG-25BM (NATO Reporting Name FOXBAT-F) is a relatively recent development for the MiG-25 family, which began as a high-speed interceptor first flown in 1964, designed to counter the B-58 Hustler and experimental XB-70 Valkyrie supersonic bombers. The MiG-25BM began development in the late 1970's and was produced between 1982 and 1985, with less than one hundred built, and was not operationally accepted until 1988. The type was armed with the Kh-58 anti-radar missile and a powerful ECM suite.

Overview

AirLand Battle

The MiG-25BM is a prototype SEAD platform available to Soviet decks. It carries two Kh-58U anti-radar missiles, two R-60 Molniya air-to-air missiles, exceptional ECM and has a medium stealth rating. The Kh-58U is both accurate and powerful, with an AP power high enough to defeat the front armor of top of the line NATO tanks. The high ECM rating and Medium stealth serve the MiG-25BM well in terms of survivability against long range SAMs and AAMs. The type can attack enemy helicopters or fighters that get too close, but the R-60's power is heavily lacking, and a fighter escort should be considered when employing the MiG-25BM over enemy territory.

Red Dragon

The MiG-25BM in Wargame: Red Dragon is a SEAD platform available to Soviet and REDFOR decks. It carries four Kh-58U anti-radar missiles, exceptional ECM (50%), and has a medium stealth rating. The Kh-58U has seen a minor decrease in accuracy and power, but both ratings are still very good (Acc 40% and AP 28), and the missile has seen a minor increase in range. The MiG-25BM has seen a price increase to 160 points per aircraft, and has lost the ability to defend itself against aerial threats, leaving the type heavily vulnerable to air superiority fighters. A fighter escort should be seriously considered when sending the MiG-25BM into enemy territory, as the BM is a heavy point loss if shot down.
