The Toxomister[1] (プワゾーン[2],Puwazōn?, lit. "Puwazone"), alternatively spelled as Toximister,[3] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.
The Toxomisters are Badniks that resemble gray poles with an orange seal gap. The most notable feature of the Toxomisters are their drooping single black eye with a pink eyelid on the top of their bodies.
Game appearances
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
In Sonic & Knuckles, and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the Toxomisters are only encountered in Lava Reef Zone. In gameplay, they remain stationary while blowing a pinkish purple, puffy cloud of smoke that floats up or down, depending on whether or not the Toxomisters are on the ceiling. If the playable character touches the cloud, even if they are invincible or in their Hyper/Super State, they will have it attached to them and lose one Ring per second. Additionally, the player's speed and jumping height, as well as vertical movement, will be decreased. The cloud can also cause them to lose a life if they have no Rings left, meaning that any obstacle can be lethal. Touching multiple clouds will increase the rate at which the player loses Rings, speed, and jump height.
The player can get rid of the Toxomisters' cloud by either pressing left and right rapidly on the or using the Spin Dash. The Water Shield can repel this cloud as well. To defeat a Toxomister, which will also dissipate any cloud it produces, the player has to attack its head. Doing so will also release the Animal inside of it and award the player with 100 points.
Sonic Mania
In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, Toxomisters are enemies found in both Acts of Lava Reef Zone. In gameplay, they remain stationary while blowing a pinkish purple, puffy cloud that floats up or down, depending on whether or not the Toxomisters are on the ceiling. They otherwise behave exactly the same as in Sonic & Knuckles and their cloud mechanics are not changed. Their hitboxes are, however, changed so that the player can destroy them by attacking their body.
Powers and abilities
The Toxomisters can blow a special cloud of poisonous smoke from their orange seal gaps.
After the multiverse was rebooted following the events of Sonic & Mega Man: Worlds Collide, the Toxomisters' history became virtually identical to their game counterparts'.
