Woodrow

The Woodrow^{[1][2][note 1]} is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, woodpecker-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

The individual Woodrow is a woodpecker-based Badnik that is colored green with a purple body and magenta-colored feathers. It also has a gray piston-like beak with yellow clamp-like feet. In Encore Mode in Sonic Mania Plus however, they possess an olive and purple color scheme instead.

Overview

In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, the Woodrows appear in Press Garden Zone Act 2. In gameplay, they can be found perched on trunks of trees, never moving from their positions. When the player gets close to them however, they will start hammering their beaks into their trunks repeatedly to shake the tree they hang onto, which is holding multiple damage-inducing black bombs, until it drop its bombs on the player. It takes them a couple of seconds to loosen the bombs though, and the bombs will remain completely harmless until they fall off their tree.

Any attack in the player's arsenal can defeat a Woodrow, releasing the animal inside and awarding the player with 100 points.

Powers and abilities

Woodrows possess piston-like beaks which are strong enough to shaken full-grown trees.

Trivia

• There is an unused design for Woodrow in the files of Sonic Mania which has a more hammer-like shape along with a placeholder sprite.^[3]
