Electrical emitter

The electrical emitter,[1] also known as the electric shocker[2] and the electric beam,[3] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a small, mass-produced generator that shoots out electricity.

Description

The electrical emitter is a device of varying design that emits electricity. In gameplay, this machine will unleash rays of electricity in an horizontal direction or vertical every few seconds. Should the playable character touch these rays, they will take damage. However, a Lightning Shield will allow the player to walk on top of electrical emitters without getting hurt.

Small gene

In the 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), and its numerous ports and remasters, electrical emitters are known as electric shockers.[2] In this game, they appear in Scrap Brain Zone Act 1 and 2, where they resemble pink orbs on metal bars. In gameplay, they emit horizontal electrical rays.

In the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), electrical emitters are known as electric beams.[3] In this game, they look like they did in the 16-bit version, except that they have a yellow orb instead of a purple one. In gameplay, electric beams appear in Scrap Brain Zone, where they otherwise behave exactly like they did in the other version.

Sonic the Hedgehog CD

Gene 2

In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, the Windows 95 version, and the 2011 remaster, electrical emitters appear in the Wacky Workbench. In this game, they are small electric cubes whose color varies depending on the timezone the player is in. In gameplay, they only fire one line of electricity at a time. To avoid them, the playable character must hang onto a pole and climb over them. Notably, in the good future, they are temporarily disabled at times.

In Sonic Forces, electrical emitters appear in Death Egg. In this game, they have the exact same appearance and behavior they had in Sonic & Knuckles.
