Sweep

Not to be confused with the Sweeper or the Enemy From Sonic X-treme.

The Sweep^{[note 1]} is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, water bug-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

The Sweeps are water bug-based orange and gray Badniks. They have large round abdomens, four sharp gray legs, a narrow gray thorax, and a round orange head with cartoony black eyes and spike-like gray mandibles.

Overview

In Sonic Mania Plus, the Sweeps appear as enemies in Angel Island Zone. In gameplay, they move back and forth on the water surfaces in the Zone, occasionally firing their mandibles in front of them. They are otherwise easily destroyed by any attack. Also, upon their destruction, they release an Animal and award the player with 100 points.

Powers and abilities

Like their template, the Sweeps are able to walk on water. They can also detach their mandibles and launch them as projectiles.

Trivia

• The Sweep appears as an unused Badnik in Sonic Mania and can be found in the Debug Mode object list for Chemical Plant Zone. When placed, its vertical position snaps to the water's surface, and it skates back and forth occasionally firing a spiked projectile from its nose.
