The fox bullies are characters that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They would pick on Tails for having an extra tail before Sonic knocked them out while running by. Tails would then run off after him and start a new life with Sonic becoming a hero in the process and leaving behind his old life.
The bullies, similar to Amy Rose's Fortune Cards, were an off-screen element mentioned in the game's manuals until their appearance in Sonic Origins, where they were adapted as a pair of foxes.
Appearance
The fox duo are young anthropomorphic, brown-furred foxes with peach skin. Unlike their victim, the foxes only have one tail. They largely resemble Tails in other aspects, sporting a pair of large triangular ears, peach-colored muzzles with cheek tufts, ear canals, tail ends and chest fur, which are also tufted, and a similar body type, though slightly taller than Tails.
Separately, one bully had two sharp locks of hair sprouting atop his head, while another had one curly lock of hair pointing downward.
For attire, they wear a pair of white gloves and red strapped shoes, complete with white cuffs and soles.
History
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
The bullies are mentioned in the Japanese manual of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, although vaguely. The manual describes that because of Tails's mutated two tails, "everyone bullied him", with the text being vague on who exactly bullied him. After meeting Sonic, however, Tails gained a new confidence in himself and felt proud of who he was.[1]
In Sonic Origins' cutscene, the bullies depicted physically for the first time in the game series as two older foxes who physically pick on Tails by grabbing his tails, until Sonic indirectly stopped them while passing by.[2]

Miles "Tails" Prower
Prior to the events of the West Side Island incident, Miles "Tails" Prower was bullied by the foxes for a while due to having an extra tail. One day while being bullied by the foxes, Sonic accidentally dashed past them, making them dizzy. After that day, they have never bullied Tails since.[2]

Sonic Prime
In Sonic Prime, Sonic once reminisced the time he saved Tails from the bullies who picked on him for having an extra tail.
However, in an alternate reality created by the Paradox Prism, a counterpart similar to Tails, Nine, got hurt by the same bullies without anyone saving him for years. This led him to gain a cynical attitude, and to create seven artificial tails so he wouldn't get hurt or bullied anymore.
Trivia
- The first adaptation of the bullies from Tails' backstory was in the Sonic X episode "The Dam Scam," where they were depicted as a fox, a monkey, and a bear.
- According to Ian Flynn, the fox bullies had internal development names. Their names were non-flattering adjectives.[3]
- Both bullies have a similar color of fur and similar gloves to Tails in his American cartoons counterparts. It is unknown if this is deliberate.
