Door

The Door[1] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are large panels in doorways that serve to hinder the player's progress throughout the nighttime Action Stages/Stages. By interacting with the environment, Sonic the Werehog can open them.

Description

Doors mostly resemblance rectangular overhead doors, meaning they are open by lifting them. The design of each Door depends on their Action Stage/Stage; in Windmill Isle they are made of white stone and match the local buildings' design, while those in Eggmanland are of metal and look robotic. Additionally, the Doors on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed have a handle on their bottom for the player to grab onto.

Overview

In gameplay of both the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version and the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed, the Doors only appear in nighttime Acts. They can be found as a part of man-made structures where they seal up paths that the player has to pass through to complete the Act.

There are three known ways to open Doors in gameplay, though each Door can only be open in one particular way. Doors that can be open by Sonic the Werehog's brute strength requires that the player approaches the door in question and does the following action until the Door opens:

Xbox 360 PS3 Wii PS2
Wii Remote Classic Controller GameCube controller
B Circle Hold B + swing Wii Remote & Nunchuk up Hold Hold Hold R1

When doors cannot be open with Sonic the Werehog's strength, they can also be open by pulling a nearby Lever or by defeating all enemies in the nearby vicinity. Doors that have been opened cannot usually be closed again at the player's command.

Trivia

  • Doors in the original games and later handheld installments in the Sonic the Hedgehog series have appeared multiple times. While not having much of a purpose, they block the player's path from either the front or behind. On several occasions, the player has to find a switch or defeat enough enemies to make the Door open.
