— Description of forming Maghreb Union |
The Maghreb Union was a formable located primarily in Northwest Africa , around the Western Mediterranean Sea. It encompassed the nations within the Arab Maghreb Union organization, and they could also form it. It was removed in the update of November 11, 2022, along with many other African formables.
Background
The Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) (Arabic: اتحاد المغرب العربي Ittiḥād al-Maghrib al-‘Arabī) is a trade agreement aiming for economic and future political[citation needed] unity among Arab countries of the Maghreb in North Africa. Its members are the nations of Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. The Union has been unable to achieve tangible progress on its goals due to deep economic and political disagreements between Morocco and Algeria regarding, among others, the issue of Western Sahara. No high level meetings have taken place since 3 July 2008, and commentators regard the Union as largely dormant. The idea for an economic union of the Maghreb began with the independence of Tunisia and Morocco in 1956. It was not until thirty years later, though, that five Maghreb states—Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, and Tunisia—met for the first Maghreb summit in 1988. The Union was established on 17 February 1989 when the treaty was signed by the member states in Marrakech. According to the Constitutive Act, its aim is to guarantee cooperation "with similar regional institutions... [to] take part in the enrichment of the international dialogue... [to] reinforce the independence of the member states and... [to] safeguard... their assets." Strategic relevance of the region is based on the fact that, collectively, it boasts large phosphate, oil, and gas reserves, and it is a transit centre to southern Europe. The success of the Union would, therefore be economically important. |
Economy, Manpower and Resources
The Maghreb Union was made up of 132 cities and a population of 35,789,705. It generates an income of $5,770,000 and a max manpower cap of 719,795 (2%). The Maghreb Union gains 4033 manpower daily. Most of the Maghreb Union's cities are located on the fertile northern areas or Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. The good majority of the country was made up of empty, arid, and attrition filled desert, with cities spaced out extensively. This makes the Maghreb Union very hard to invade. The Maghreb Union has vast oil reserves, having the largest reserves if formed, it has massive phosphate reserves, also the most in the game, it also has important copper reserves, a huge amount of iron, and gold in southern Mauritania.
Strategy
Algeria article has an extensive tutorial on how to form this. -You should ally one of the great Mediterranean powers, whether it be Egypt, France, Spain, Italy, or Turkey. You should also secure an alliance with Germany as in the mid to late games Germany was usually prevalent. Allying all of these powers was impossible, so try to secure at least an Islamic and a European power. Now comes the conquest.
-Annex Tunisia quickly. Italy would probably take it as it holds massive phosphate reserves and was geographically close.
-Annex Libya if it hasn't been conquered. If it has, annex Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania, you could also annex the countries of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, as they hold gold reserves. If you were to annex these three, for the Tuareg State to boost your stability. Then, if you have annexed Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania, there are 2 ways this would end up:
-If you've annexed Libya, form the Maghreb Union.
-If another country has it, ask one of your allies to partition the country(most likely Italy).
Congrats! you've just formed the Maghreb Union!
