JYP Entertainment (JYP엔터테인먼트) is a South Korean music label and entertainment agency. It was founded in 1997 as Taehong Planning Ltd. (태홍기획) by singer and producer J.Y. Park before changing to its current name in 2001.
It is currently home to idol groups such as 2PM, TWICE, Stray Kids, ITZY, NMIXX, KickFlip, in addition to numerous non-idol groups and solo artists.
Sales and revenues from JYP Entertainment make it one of the most successful agency in Korea, and a part of the "Big 3 agencies" along with YG Entertainment and SM Entertainment. JYP Entertainment distributes through various companies in different international locations.
History
2022–2023: America2Korea project and VCHA
On July 25, 2022, JYP Entertainment uploaded an announcement video with chairman Park Jin Young and Republic Records' founder and CEO Monte Lipman. They revealed the dates of auditions for the America2Korea project, which aim for the creation of the next "Global Super Girl Group". The selected participants will train at JYP Entertainment in Korea and the final members chosen will debut in the United States. The group will partner with both JYP Entertainment and Republic Records for all music releases.[1] On June 29, 2023, JYP Entertainment posted the first teaser for the show which will premiere on July 13.[2] It ended on September 22 when the identities of the final six members of VCHA were unveiled.[3] They eventually debuted on January 26 .[4]
2024: LatinAmerica2Korea project
On July 18, 2024, JYP Entertainment revealed that they established a subsidiary in Latin America and would be debuting a Latin girl group through the audition program LatinAmerica2Korea in partnership with Universal Music Latino.[5]
