Spookstep is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. It yields no Copy Ability when inhaled. This foe is only found in haunted stages, starting with Stage 4 of Lollipop Land.
Physical Appearance
Spookstep is a light blue ghost with a body strongly resembling a Kirby's, except with actual arms and "hands." It walks around on purple feet wearing a big grin on its face, with part of it's upper lip having points inside the mouth, resembling fangs. The enemy has one large eye with a red iris. Coming up from the back of Spookstep's head is a curl.
Games
Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Spookstep is essentially a more cunning Waddle Dee; it walks back and forth like a Waddle Dee, but is considerably faster and will only turn around if it runs into a wall. These foes may appear out of thin air to ambush Kirby.
Most Spooksteps are invisible. To see one, the player must look at a Truth Mirror that is positioned in the background; the enemy's reflection can plainly be seen in it. A few of the enemies can be seen in broad daylight, however.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Spooksteps return in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, appearing most prominently in Wondaria Remains. Their method of attack is much like Phanta and sometimes Mumbies, except grounded: it waits until Kirby reaches a certain area (usually some sort of lure, like a collection of Star Coins), then they materialise out of thin air, then pursue Kirby. Unlike their Triple Deluxe version, Spooksteps now actively pursue Kirby and don't require a Truth Mirror to be seen.
Etymology
"Spookstep" is a combination of "spook," referencing its ghostly appearance; and "step," referencing its form of movement, walking.
Its Japanese name, ホラータランプ (Horā Taranpu), comes from "horror" (ホラー horā), also referencing its appearance; and "tramp" (タランプ taranpu), also referencing its form of movement being walking.[1]
