A Truth Mirror[1] is a Device in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
Physical Appearance
Truth Mirrors, as their name suggests, are mirrors, and as such their appearance changes to reflect what appears in the mirror itself. Outside of this, each Truth Mirror has a border around it. In Lollipop Land, they have a yellow border with alternating light and dark triangles, then a green striped border decorated with suns, and finally an alternating yellow-and-blue striped perimeter. In Wild World, the border is yellow and also has alternating triangles; the corners are also rounded.
Games
Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Truth Mirrors are only located in Stage 4 of Lollipop Land and Stages 3 and 7 of Wild World.
In Lollipop Land's haunted circus, Truth Mirrors are used to reveal invisible ghostly enemies, specifically Spooksteps and Phantas. The Truth Mirror, being a mirror, also allows the player to see terrain, hazards, and enemies that are otherwise obstructed by partitioning screens first appearing in the second Truth Mirror area.
In Wild World's haunted castle, Truth Mirrors now reveal the invisible Ghost Gordos, which hadn't appeared until now. Truth Mirrors additionally reveal that some platforms and walls are fake, as they do not appear in the mirror, but also that some are invisible, appearing only in the mirror; it can also reveal whether or not the player can drop through a platform. In the second Truth Mirror area in Wild World, invisible spikes are now also revealed in the mirror; in this room in particular, there is a secret area that leads to the stage's Rare Keychain, being on a lone step that doesn't have invisible spikes (although it also features further distinction).
Trivia
- This shares its name with a Treasure in The Great Cave Offensive. In Japanese, however, their names are written differently (the Truth Mirror treasure is written in all hiragana, the Truth Mirror stage feature is written mostly with kanji) to differentiate them.
- Before and after each Truth Mirror section, the player is forced to enter a Copy Drop Gate. This is because Kirby: Triple Deluxe can't handle displaying Kirby with a Copy Ability in both the foreground and his reflection in the mirror. Using hacking to obtain a Copy Ability in a Truth Mirror section shows a reflection of Kirby with the Copy Ability, but only the model, as any visual effects are missing (and, in the case of Hypernova specifically, the reflected Kirby doesn't match Kirby in the foreground at all).[2]
