This robust swimmer has a powerful jaw. It floats on the water's surface, watching and waiting for its prey. Its hide is as tough as armor, so you'll need something bigger than a Copy Ability to take it down...Do you think Mouthful Mode would do the trick?
— Gotcha Capsule Description • Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Gnawcodile is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It cannot be inhaled.

Physical Appearance

Gnawcodile resembles a crocodile with a disproportionately large head. It is predominantly black with a dark greenish gray underside. Its snout is long and full of sharp teeth scattered all around its mouth. In contrast to its large head, its body is rather small alongside with its arms and legs being very short in appearance with the end of each limb having three claws. It also has a tail that are short like the rest of its limbs. Its eyes are in a sinister expression having purple irises. The top of its head and body is full of spikes all around it resembling scutes. Its cheeks are red and are notably brighter than the rest of its body.

Games

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Gnawcodile first appears in the Abandoned Beach of Everbay Coast. It patrols its territory in the water; some swim in circles, some go back and forth along a line, and some simply float in one spot. However, if it spots the player, it will dive underwater, position itself beneath them, and then bite upward to try and catch them. If successful, a Gnawcodile will then drag the player under the water, crushing them unless they mash the indicated button to help Kirby escape.

Gnawcodile can be defeated by ramming it with a boat or by blasting air at it, both using Ring Mouth's ability to blow powerful puffs of air.

When fighting Fecto Forgo, a Gnawcodile head is visible on the bottom of its left side, underneath an Awoofy and a Rabiroo.

Etymology

"Gnawcodile" is a portmanteau of "gnaw", referencing its method of attack; and "crocodile", referrencing the animal it resembles.

Its Japanese name, クロコガブル (Kurokogaburu), is a portmanteau of "crocodile", クロコダイル (kurokodairu); and the Japanese onomatopoeia of eating, ガブガブ/がぶがぶ (gabugabu).
