Jesse

Jesse (ジェシー Jeshī) is an agent of the Galactic Intelligence Agency who was undercover as a member of Elsie's Pirate Crew.

Appearance

Jesse is a young man with fair skin and black hair in a bowl cut, covering his eyes. His initial outfit consists of a navy suit, with matching pants and boots, that is adorned with silver shoulder pads, gloves, and the lower part of his shirt.[1]

Personality

Jesse is very modest and polite, respectfully addressing his superior Amira as "Chief" (姉御 Anego, lit. "Elder Sister"). He is also silver-tongued, calling Amira's male disguise of a young prince a waste of her natural beauty.[2] As a spy, he takes his duties seriously and is concerned by Amira's occasional carelessness in her infiltration.[3] He also has a sly and underhanded side to his personality, as shown when he patiently awaits Elsie Crimson's downfall.[4]

Jesse plays Rogue Fantasia in his private time and, according to Elsie, has a habit of playing video games.[3]

Synopsis

History

By the year X492, Jesse joined the crew of Elsie Crimson of the Oración Seis Galáctica for undercover work on behalf of the Galactic Intelligence Agency.[4] For unknown reasons, he became familiarized with Homura Kōgetsu.[5]

Norma arc

Elsie's Pirate Crew Anime

Jesse is present with Elsie as she and her small group of subordinates visit the Shooting Starlight guild on Blue Garden for intel on Shiki Granbell, surprising the Adventurers of their presence.[1]

Skull Fairy arc

Jesse is aboard Elsie's flagship shortly after she gives the Skull Fairy to Shiki and his friends. When Elsie and her fleet engages the Interstellar Union Army forces led by Justice of the Oración Seis Interstellar to cover the Edens Zero's escape, Jesse assures the ship's new owners that his own crew will be safe.[6]

Digitalis arc

Jesse provides intel on the Edens Zero to Amira, who infiltrates its crew by masquerading as Homura with a prince avatar on Digitalis to find a lead on Jamilov. He meets with Amira in Crysta, commenting on her male disguise, preferring her natural beauty, and asking how her undercover job is going.[2] Jesse is contacted by Amira after she abandons the crew when they are attacked by a horde of monsters. He opts to stay out of the action and informs her that Jamilov is in the western forest. He then jokingly reproaches her for abandoning Shiki and his friends, whom she simply says have served their purpose so long it brings her closer.[7] After Jamilov is dealt with, he contacts Amira at Brown Sea, asking if she did not expose him, noting that they saw through her disguise. Amira chastises him for going to Digitalis without changing his avatar, but he retorts that he was not there on business. He reminds her that he gave intel on the Edens Zero and if they find her source then they will be in trouble. Amira states he worries too much, but he corrects her that he worries about her capabilities as a spy. He expresses his worries for her but realizes Elsie is near. After ending his call, he has a brief conversation with Elsie about him playing video games in his spare time, which she advises him not to overdo it. Jesse then silently warns Elsie that her time is almost up.[8]

Edens One arc

Jesse is with Elsie and Behrman in the meeting room with the Crew of Edens where he explained about Elsie's inadequate skill with the machines despite her strength and reputation as the Armored Space Pirate, and how she became a pirate after stealing food and supplies from multiple spaceports out of desperation.[9]

Foresta arc

The Skull Fairy arrives in the Coral Sector, Jesse is at the bridge near Elsie. When the Interstellar Union Army fleet led by Justice shows up, he is ordered by Elsie to get rid of them. He is confused about her demand and advises her that they have to run until Elsie tells him to drop the act and says that he called them here, perplexing the crew. A nervous Jesse tries to play off the suspicion but Elsie reveals to the crew that he is a government spy while offering him a last chance to get rid of the army ships in pursuit and she will hear him out in exchange. However, Jesse remains silent amidst his shaking body much to Elsie's disappointment. Jesse is faced with the brunt of the crew's anger and intent to kill him but Elsie calms them down and intends to let him go unharmed despite knowing that he was a spy on her ship for about a month and their concerns of Jesse leaking all of their secrets to the government. When Gowen and Hyoga of the Princess Guard reveal that they helped Elsie uncover the spy and made all of the important intel Jesse thought he sent untransmittable. He is shocked and upset that his undercover work had been all for nothing and remains silent and shaking as Elsie explains to him that her crew came from different backgrounds and believes that even an agent of the G.I.A. could be a part of the family after living with them in the Skull Fairy for a while, thus she did not out him earlier until now. However, in his moment of defiance, Jesse lividly declares that she will never beat the Interstellar Union Army which angers Gowen and Hyoga out of their brief bickering and disappoints Elsie more. After that, Jesse is placed inside a space pod, jettisoned back to Justice and his forces.[10]
