Like most of Doja Cat's SoundCloud-exclusive releases, the song was originally made herself during Periscope and Instagram livestreams at home around January 2018. She spent weeks making the song and even went live with some fans to help create the song. It was later remastered for its release on SoundCloud.
On January 28, 2018, weeks before its release on SoundCloud, Doja Cat went to Instagram Live and previewed a homemade music video for the song she directed herself. However, the video was never released and currently remains as a livestream recording. She also shared a snippet of the video to her Instagram account this day, previewing the song as shes in a bathtub.
In the music video, a rough version of the song was used. This version had a rougher instrumental and slightly different vocals, it being the version she made herself before having it remastered for the SoundCloud release on February 13, 2018.
