On September 8, 2016, Doja Cat uploaded earlier versions of this song and "Candy" to her SoundCloud account, later removing "Candy". This version of "Casual" has a build-up in the intro and a slightly different end part of the last chorus, still having the drums opposed to the finalized version.
Around 2017 - 2018, Doja Cat shared the early tracklist of Amala before its release. The tracklist had some cut tracks and "Casual" serving as the tenth track, next to it written "Listen/review/dress up?".
