Jared Sun

Jared Sun (선종원; Seon Jongwon; "Jongwan Seon") is a former student of Ganghak High School. Jared previously worked under Wolf and was a leading figure of the Ganghak School Council.[1] He serves as the main antagonist of the Ganghak Arc as he was the one pulling the strings of the fight between Wolf Keum and Eunjang's White Mamba.

Appearance

Jared Sun has a relatively short and lanky appearance. He even appears to be shorter than Gray Yeon, who is 5' 2".[2] Jared has medium length, green hair, with two strands sticking out and hanging over his forehead. His eyes are mostly seen closed, though they are a light brown color. Under his left eye, he has a black mole.

He wears the Ganghak High uniform, which comprises a red jacket with the school's logo and black pants. He wears his school jacket buttoned, with a black turtleneck underneath. He also sports yellowish colored sneakers with a green and red logo on them.

Personality

Jared is a very manipulative person and takes status from people more powerful than him, he is best described as a parasite. Jared sucks up to people with power so he can form beneficial relationships to get to the top. With the status he gets from these relationships, no one dares to stand against him, displayed in his (former) relationship with Wolf.[3] He doesn't hesitate to manipulate those he sucks up to, such as when he framed Rowan as the bag thief in order to have Wolf beat him up.

To the school faculty, he appears to be a nice, "model student", which leads to him being favored. In truth, he is a cruel and petty bully, who cheats on tests and assists other students in cheating.

History

At the start of the school year, Jared's uncle began to give Jared answer sheets to exams.

Plot

Ganghak Arc

Jared was first mentioned by Wolf Keum during a Union assembly, he credited him for "doing all the work" for Ganghak's selection of a high school president. Donald Na calls him a sneaky brat and tells Wolf to bring him next time as he seemed pretty useful. In a phone conversation shown on screen, Jared Sun states he's done talking to and persuaded the school's higher upper to their side and he's collected lists and fees from Kingsley.[4]

Jared Sun appears visibly when he tells the group of loud Ganghak students it's over and they should go. The group agrees and they all leave the internet cafe with Toby Kim plodding behind them. In an alleyway, Jared watches his peers harassing Toby in the form of a game before his attention is moved towards Rowan Im who stops them. When Rowan asks what he's doing, Jared tries to play it off as friends playing and tells him he can go. [5]

Unwilling to take criticism from someone he deems beneath him, Jared begins an elaborate revenge plan against Rowan.

In the aftermath of Wolf's defeat, Jared attempts to reassure him that Donald will be too busy to notice. In the process, he inadvertently mentions confidential information from Donald's new activities. Wolf quickly deduces that Jared was the true thief, and beats him bloody as punishment.

Some time later, Toby Kim exposed all of Jared's cheating and corruption, ruining his reputation, then later gets a beating from Toby for getting his family business closed for fun. When Wolf's underlings walk by, Jared demands that they save him and beat Toby up. The underlings laugh at him and tell Jared in dangerous tones to return everything he stole from Wolf by the end of the day or he will suffer immensely, then casually tells Toby to carry on what he was doing before going on their way. Toby gladly complies and resumes beating Jared bloody.

After Jared is forcefully dragged to Wolf to return what he stole from him, Wolf gives Jared another sound thrashing as a stern warning to never cross him again and kicks him out of the Union and its protective influence.

Last One Arc

Toby offhandedly mentions that Jared was expelled from Ganghak High.

Relationships

Wolf Keum

Wolf Keum and Jared Sun used to be on good terms. Jared performed tasks such as forming favorable relationships with school faculty and upperclassmen for Wolf. He fools Wolf into believing the Eunjang students, Rowan Im and Eugene Gale, were the ones who took his money, causing Wolf to beat them up. This indirectly causes Wolf into starting a fight with "Eunjang's White Mamba" and lose. After Wolf Keum's defeat, he recognized Jared tricked him into thinking the Eunjang students were the thieves. Wolf beats him after their confrontation and later cuts ties with him.

Toby Kim (Ttosik/Ttosikki)

While Jared refers to Toby as "Ttosik" or "Ttosikki", referring to his father's restaurant, the two are not close. Toby used to fear Jared and wanted to avoid him as much as possible. Jared uses his fear inviting himself and others to his father's chicken shop. When Jared and a few others are at the chicken shop, they force Toby to give them alcohol and trash the establishment. Jared later calls the cops on the restaurant to report it giving alcohol to minors, leading it to shut down and Toby's father fell extremely ill. This act of cruelty proved to be Jared's undoing: pushed to his breaking point, Toby exposes Jared's wrongdoings to the school and destroying his reputation. When Jared takes his anger out on Toby, Toby snaps and beats up Jared and no one goes to stop him.

Arthur Sun

Arthur is Jared's uncle and the two very are close. Jared relies on his uncle, who is the Ganghak High Head of School Affairs, to give him answers for important exams and tests. His uncle also provides him with barred extra credit and benefits on his school portfolio. Jared and his uncle share the same morals as they believe they're above everybody else, and the people who work hard are "scumbags".[6] When Toby Kim exposes Jared's wrongdoing (including his cheating), he and his uncle get yelled at by the headmaster for affecting the whole school, as the information got on the news.[7][8]

Julia Chae

Jared and Julia are acquaintances. It is unknown how long they've known each other or how they met, but Jared already had her contact info when he needed to hire someone to help frame Rowan, implying that Julia has already done shady work for Jared in the past.

Abilities

Mental

Jared's greatest asset is his ability to manipulate and deceive others. He was able to trick Wolf and all of his subordinates into thinking the Eunjang students stole their money, and was able to construct a convincing façade to his school's faculty. However, when under extreme pressure, like with his confrontation with Wolf, he tends to let little, revealing details slip out.

In terms of academic ability, Jared is remarkably poor, having relied on his uncle's connections to cheat his way to the top of his class. The discrepancy between his test "performance" and his ability in-class was noticed by his peers (as Jared was unable to solve even a basic equation), and was part of the reason Toby Kim's story against him was so readily believed.

Physical

Jared is a poor fighter, and he relies on and latches onto powerful people. Yet, nobody dared to stand against him because he was with Wolf Keum and the Ganghak High teachers favored him. Because of this, Jared picks fights with people he knows he has power over, like Toby Kim and various other people in Class 1-3.[9] Jared can be easily overpowered, as Toby Kim knocked him out of a classroom, into the hallway wall, in one punch.[10]
