Ultraman Shadow

Ultraman Shadow (ウルトラマンシャドー, Urutoraman Shadō) is an anti-Ultraman Zearth robot made by Lady-Benzene. In contrast to Zearth's coloration - red and white, with yellow eyes - Shadow is painted black and yellow, has red eyes, pointed ears, a yellow Color Timer, and a more prominent head fin. He used his full power against Zearth, but was destroyed in his final battle against his true counterpart.

Several years after Zearth's climactic battle against Shadow, an Alien Zarab managed to steal Shadow's blueprints from Lady-Benzene, using them to build a second example of the robot to fight alongside him against Ultraman Regulos. While this Shadow also fought remarkably well, he too was eventually destroyed, this time by Regulos's Cosmo Beast Style techniques.

History

Ultraman Zearth 2: Superhuman Big Battle - Light and Shadow

A devastatingly powerful android Ultraman created by Lady-Benzene and programmed with a massive amount of martial arts knowledge, Ultraman Shadow's first mission was to attack Zearth in Antarctica. The war machine followed his target through the area at high speeds, finally landing to confront each other in the icy wasteland. Shadow soon gained the upper hand on the hero, smashing him to the ground repeatedly, kicking him into the air as he attempted the Spachouchoura Beam. The two fought high in the air, Shadow once again overwhelming the hero and using a diving kick to smash him into the ground below. Shadow launched a Shadow Fist Punch, striking Zearth's eye and giving it a blood red hue. Finally, the two set loose their signature beams, the colliding energies fighting but Shadow's overwhelming Zearth's and smashing him to the ground hard. Content with this, Shadow flew off, leaving Zearth laying unconscious on the ground, Color Timer blinking rapidly.

He was later deployed to challenge Zearth once again, but the hero was emotionally crushed from the previous battle. Mydo arrived to attack Shadow with a laser rope, but Shadow just snapped the rope and grabbed them, using the laser ropes to smash their ships into each other. When Miraclon was sent against him, Shadow used Darklar, only to have his capsule monster beaten and hurled at him, causing his timer to begin blinking, forcing Lady-Benzene to recharge him. Ultraman Shadow instantly took matters into his own hands, pummeling Miraclon into submission with his Shadow Fist Punches before he was then sent by his master to put a city under her control. Mydo attacked Shadow, only for one of their own to be placed under his control as well before Shadow was recalled to Shadow City.

When Mydo arrived via Sky Shark to free the captives, Lady-Benzene launched Shadow to deal with them. While intelligently aiming for his Color Timer with a powerful weapon dubbed the Zetton Ray Gun, Lady-Benzene had predicted this, giving Shadow a shield around his timer. Their beam was deflected right back, blasting them from the sky. He then assaulted them with his energy blasts, trying to finish them off. As the machine prepared to finish them, Zearth arrived with a kick to the android's head. The evil Ultra attacked, but unlike before, Zearth had trained heavily, ready for the battle and began overwhelming Ultraman Shadow before landing a kick to the head, Shadow toppling to the ground. The two soon launched skywards and Shadow fired his Shadow Fist, only to be dodged and then sent plummeting to the Earth below by Zearth's new Zearth Machine Gun Kick, his Color Timer flashing and a sparking wound in his armor on his head. However, Lady-Benzene used her tower to recharge the robot. The two Ultras prepared their finishing beams once more, firing together. Using her machines, Lady-Benzene powered up Shadow's beam but with those all over the world cheering for him, Zearth unleashed the Cross Spachouchoura Beam. The beam tore through the Shadolium Beam and blew Shadow to pieces of blazing slag, freeing Lady-Benzene's slaves with his demise. ^{Ultraman Zearth 2: Superhuman Big Battle - Light and Shadow}

Trivia

• Suit actor: Yu Kanetsuka
• Ultraman Shadow is the first robot Ultraman that wasn't designed to be a perfect duplicate of their living rival, although he is clearly based on Zearth in terms of his design. Instead, Shadow was created as a purpose-built robotic assassin to kill the Ultra, with this design plan being similar to that of the first Ace Killer. For this reason, Shadow is also the second Imitation Ultra whose purpose was not to damage the reputation of his real counterpart, with the first being Ace Robot, which was built to be a test subject for Ace Killer's copied powers.
• Shadow is the only Ultraman to fire his beam from the under side of a closed fist.
• Despite his supposed sophistication, Shadow was easily defeated when his Capsule Monster was thrown at him.
• In the Singaporean English dub of Ultraman Zearth 2, his name is Shadow Zearth.
• Ultraman Shadow is one of the few Ultras (real or fake) to have multiple Color Timer sounds. A medium-pitch sound played after he was knocked down by Miraclon, while his second, a much deeper, more metallic noise, played at the climax of his final battle with Zearth.

Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Adventure NEO

Lady-Benzene recreated Ultraman Shadow as part of her search for Armored Darkness and harnessing its power to get her revenge on Zearth. Arriving on Planet Hammer prior to Reionics Battle, the two came across Ai Asama and Kanegon, saving them from an Alien Zarab trying to disguise himself as Ultraman. The two then entered the Darknesphere and engaged in a three way battle between Red King/EX Gomora and Grozam/Armored Darkness. Ultraman Shadow was destroyed by the combined forces of Red King and EX Gomora.

Ultraman Shadow appeared in Mega Monster Battle: ULTRA MONSTERS NEO, but since Lady-Benzene was absent, he instead served as the support to Alien Zarab's Imit-Ultraman, with no mention of him ever really participating in the adaptation from manga to the game's story mode.

Ultraman Regulos: First Mission

Years after Shadow's defeat on Earth, Alien Zarab managed to steal the data used for his construction from Lady-Benzene and created a second Shadow to use for himself. Shadow was sent out to fight against Ultraman Regulos and managed to almost overpower him, but the robot was defeated by the Ultra's Cosmo Beast Style attacks. ^{Ultraman Regulos: First Mission}

Powers and Weapons

• Shadolium Beam (シャドリウム光線, Shadoriumu Kōsen): Shadow's "+" style beam attack. Unlike most Ultra Beams, this one is fired with the right hand in a fist.
• Shadow Merikens (シャドーメリケン, Shadō Meriken): Shadow summons brass knuckles on his wrists to enhance his attack power.
  • Shadow Meriken Punch (シャドーメリケンパンチ, Shadō Meriken Panchi): With the Shadow Merikens equipped, Shadow can launch his hands off from the ends of his forearms to punch opponents from a distance. While physically separated from his arms, the hands are connected by red and purple strands of energy, and quickly fly back into place after successfully hitting the target.
  • Shadow Meriken Missiles (シャドーメリケンミサイル, Shadō Meriken Misairu): Ultraman Shadow can fire rapid shots of purple energy from his Shadow Merikens.
• Defense Shield (防御シールド, Bōgyo Shīrudo): Shadow has a Color Timer, like Zearth, but his is equipped with armor to protect it against attacks.
• Mind Control Beam (マインドコントロールビーム, Maindo Kontorōru Bīmu): Ultraman Shadow can fire a beam of red energy from his eyes, turning humans into mindless followers of his creator, Lady-Benzene. Though, it's only effective on people who lost their faith in Ultraman Zearth. The only way to reverse this, is to destroy Ultraman Shadow.
• Shadow Hyper Kick (シャドーハイパーキック, Shadō Haipā Kikku): A variety of powerful kick techniques. This includes roundhouse kicks, dive kicks, and knee kicks.
• Capsule Kaiju: Ultraman Shadow's possession of the monster, Darklar, is kept in a Capsule Kaiju that he can deploy under Lady Benzene's command.
