Cotton-Poppe

Cotton-Poppe (コッテンポッペ, Kotten-Poppe) is a Kaiju that appeared in the film, Ultraman Zearth. He is the bodyguard of Alien Benzene. His actual name is Gold Bomber (ゴルドルボムルス, Gorudoru Bomurusu) as referred to by Benzene; Mydo merely christened him with the former name instead.

Benzene's personal invasion monster, Cotton-Poppe was tasked with stealing Planet Earth's gold to treat his master's illness, and also to protect him should Earth mount a resistance to his plans to invade afterwards. After a long and difficult battle in which Zearth was unable to use his Spachouchoura Beam on Cotton-Poppe, lest he explode with the force of a nuclear bomb, Zearth was eventually able to subdue the monster and take it into orbit, where he was able to destroy it harmlessly.

History

Ultraman Zearth

Cotton-Poppe served as both the weapon and bodyguard for Alien Benzene in his scheme to kill Ultraman Zearth and steal all of Earth's gold to cure his illness. Cotton-Poppe's presence was felt across the globe as he consumed massive quantities of gold using his tongue. Mydo set up a trap to stop the monster during one of its gold raids, but Cotton-Poppe's spike lightning thwarted their efforts, allowing him to feed on even more gold.

One night, while investigating, Mydo discovered that the monster was transferring the absorbed gold as energy waves to Alien Benzene. However, this only provided a temporary cure for his illness, prompting Alien Benzene to send Cotton-Poppe to initiate the next phase of his plan.

Alien Benzene and Cotton-Poppe then abducted Tohru Hoshimi and several children holding them atop a rock formation as bait to lure Ultraman Zearth into a trap. MYDO attempted to rescue the group but was once again incapacitated by Cotton-Poppe. When Ultraman Zearth arrived, Alien Benzene created a lake of tar around the rock formation, while Cotton-Poppe threatened to strike with his lightning.

Overcoming his fears, Ultraman Zearth freed his friends and engaged in battle with Cotton-Poppe. Just as Zearth seemed to be winning, Alien Benzene joined the fight, helping the monster to overpower the Ultra. However, Zearth refused to give up. After landing a powerful Zearth Knee Kick to Cotton-Poppe’s gut, the monster collapsed, unable to continue the fight. After defeating Alien Benzene, Zearth carried Cotton-Poppe's body into space, where he destroyed it safely with his Spachouchoura Beam, ensuring no harm came to Earth.

Powers and Weapons

• Gold Manipulation: Cotton-Poppe can easily manipulate gold, reducing solid masses of the metal into clouds of particles to more easily absorb it. He can also release the gold from his body as a means of delivering it to Alien Benzene.
• Tongue: Cotton-Poppe's long, chamaeleon-like tongue can be used to absorb large amounts of gold in a short amount of time.
• Pyrokinesis: Cotton-Poppe can manipulate fire to his liking. He was seen swallowing fires that were used to trap him and exhaled it towards his target.
• Spike Lightning: Cotton-Poppe can shoot blue lightning from the spikes on his shoulders.
• Laser Horn: From the nasal horn on his head, Cotton-Poppe can fire a blue energy beam. It can be charged for an even more powerful attack.
• Burrowing: Cotton-Poppe can burrow at moderately high speeds.
• Gold Nuke: Through a process which isn't fully explained, Cotton-Poppe becomes extremely unstable after consuming a sufficient amount of gold; Benzene used this to his advantage by forcing Zearth to avoid using his Spachouchoura Beam, as he stated that should the beam be used on Cotton-Poppe, he would explode with the force of a nuclear bomb.
